Hello David,
Since the Chevy Colorado does not have the towing capacity of a full-sized truck, there are no custom base rail kits made for it. Custom rails are usually preferred because they come with brackets that line up with existing frame holes, which eliminates drilling and makes installation much simpler.
For your truck, you would need to use the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 10 Bolt # RP30035. The # RP30035 is a universal kit, and I won’t sugarcoat it, these can be a bit of a pain to install. I’ve attached the instructions so you can review them and decide whether it’s something you’d like to tackle yourself. I also included our Dealer Locator link if you’d prefer to have a shop handle the installation.
What do you plan on towing with your Colorado?

I would be looking to tow a mini fifth wheel. I have a gooseneck dump trailer that I could use to haul kayaks to the lake or my subcompact tractor and still be within the Colorados limits. I just prefer the 5th wheel or gooseneck over bumper pulling. It’s really about balancing the load demand on the trailer axles vs. the tow vehicle axle.
