Hey Jesse. For your 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, I recommend the Curt Hitch item # C12185. This custom fit hitch has been confirmed to fit all models of the 2016 Malibu including the hybrid.
The Curt item # C12185 is a class II hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. It has a 3,500 lbs towing capacity and a maximum tongue weight of 350 lbs. This is our largest and highest capacity hitch for your car.
I checked with Curt on the correct wiring harness. For your Malibu hybrid, you'll need their Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C56387. This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in the rear cargo area. It will provide you with a 4-way connector.
You'll also need a ball mount if you'll be towing. The etrailer Ball Mount w/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball - 1-1/4" Hitch - 3-7/8" Rise - 3,500 lbs item # e47DR is going to be the best option for a lower sitting car like your Malibu.
What are you planning on using your hitch for?
