Replacement for Bulldog Jack That Won't Clear Ball Mount

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 09/24/2025

Question:

Hi folks, I recently bought a Bulldog electric trailer jacknot from you because of their warranty. I’m having trouble getting a good ground on my aluminum horse trailer and also, it won’t lift high enough to get it on and off the ball. The top wind manual jack worked with a 2” hitch, but I now have to use a 6” hitch that makes the trailer a bit too low at the front. I think I’ll replace the Bulldog with a different power jack that has a higher lift. My truck is only a 1/2 ton and sits high at the back, but s 6-8” with the trailer attached. Guess the springs are soft. Any suggestions Thanks

Hi Debbie, welcome back! Sorry to hear about your Bulldog jack. It is difficult to say for sure what will work without knowing how much lift your current jack has. However, I believe the Ram Electric Jack w/ Footplate # EJ-3520-BBX will allow your coupler to clear the ball mount. What you can do is compare the bracket height on your current jack to this one. The Ram jack has an extended bracket height of 27-1/2" without and 35" with the drop leg with a total lift of 25-1/8".

If warranty is a major concern the Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack # UF97FR is another option. This has a bracket height of 32-3/4" with the drop leg extended, 27-1/4" without, and a total lift of 23-1/2". This jack comes with a 5-year warranty vs a 1-year on the Ram. Both have a capacity of 3,500 lbs.

If neither of these will clear, or if you need a higher capacity, let me know and I'll see what else is available.

Hey Debbie, how did things go after you compared the bracket heights on your Bulldog and the Ram or Ultra-Fab jacks? Your update could make it easier for others trying to get the right lift for their trailers.
