Can A Dual Hitch Adapter Be Used To Carry Bike Rack While Using Tow Bar?

Updated 09/23/2025 | Published 09/07/2025

Question:

Can you have 2 receiver adapters on one hitch? I’d like to mount a bike rack above the tow bar. Is that possible ? Thanks

Hello Tom, yes, that is possible! The best way to do this is with a dual hitch adapter like the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-10. This gives you two hitch receivers with 10" between them. Typically, this would be enough clearance between the bike rack and the tow bar. Although depending on what vehicle and bike rack you have, you may run into issues with the bikes hitting the towed car on sharp turns. Just something to be aware of.

The picture I included shows an example of what this will look like. You will just want to make sure this configuration will allow your tow bar to sit level. The lowermost receiver on the adapter sits 2" below the RV hitch receiver. We do offer dual hitch adapters with different configurations if needed.

What kind of bike rack do you have?
