Can Demco Autoslide in 2025 Silverado 3500 Tow 2024 Forest River Sierra 3800RK

Question:

Hi, i need help getting a 5th wheel hitch for Silverado 3500 diesel 6.5’ bed with oem puck system. Pulling 2024 sierra 3800rk GVWR 15500, dry pin weight 2405. I was looking at the Demco 21k but after reading about how the hitch should be 20 higher rating I’m not sure 21k model will be enough. The pin weight listed is dry. I read 10 of GVWR plus dry pin weight would come close to loaded pin weight. If that’s true i calculated 23,400 is total weight. Does Demco make a hitch higher than 21k? Thank you Tom

Hey Tom! The 15,500 lb GVWR of your 2024 Forest River Sierra 3800RK is the maximum weight for that 5th wheel. Pin weight is not an additional weight on top of the GVWR that gets added to it. Your trailer unloaded weighs 12,849 lbs, with a pin weight of 2,405 lbs. Pin weight is typically 15-20% of the trailer weight, so fully loaded you're looking at 3,100 lbs max for the pin weight if your trailer is sitting at 15,500 lbs.

The Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider # DM79GV can absolutely handle your 5th wheel. The hitch has a gross towing weight of 21,000 lbs and vertical load limit of 5,250 lbs. Both of these are well above the maximum weights for your trailer. The Autoslide will definitely be a nice addition to your setup and give you a great towing experience.
