Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Demco Autoslide locking plate for your Lippert Rhino pin boxes. Now basically, this locking plate right here is designed to bolt onto your Lippert Rhino pin box to prevent the kingpin from pivoting inside your Demco Autoslide's fifth wheel trailer hitch. And as we mentioned, this is designed to fit on the Lippert Rhino pin boxes. It is a simple bolt-on installation, comes with the included hardware.

Basically, it'll include this capture plate adapter base, the two clamp push plates, four bolts, four jam nuts, and a nice set of instructions that'll describe how this installs. Basically, this plate here is gonna go around your kingpin. You can see the hole in it for your kingpin to come through. But this will go onto the pin box and then you'll attach it using these clamp plates that'll bolt right on there and hold it into place. It is made of a corrosion-resistant, durable carbide black powder coat finish on it.

Worked well to adapt my Rhino pin box to the Demco Auto-Slide hitch head. Will be switching pin boxes at some point so for me, not a permanent solution. Very happy with it overall and would use/buy again if in the same situation.

I received my Locking Plate yesterday and really appreciate all of Nick's help in getting it to me pronto. It was a Thursday and we are picking up our new fifth wheel Monday. Unfortunately, I'm not real happy with the plate. I was very careful to not cross-thread the four bolts, but each would seize up after about a turn. It appears to be the powder coat creating the issue. So I carefully tightened each bolt slightly and then would remove and blow out any debris. However, I noticed the bolt threads were a little rounded off as I removed them. Hard to believe it's powder coat that could cause that. Seems more like an poor job of tapping the holes. Once I did get each bolt to thread, then the jam nuts did not want to go on because of the bolt thread deformation. I was able to work them on and of with wrenches and small steps and now it I think it will work out. Sorry, but it just shouldn't have been this difficult. Seems Demco could have QC'ed to make sure the bolts would insert without so much of a struggle.

If the plate was made to slide on than bolted down would make installation easier. It was tough trying to hold the plate and hold the spacers in place while tightening the bolts, the spacers keep wanting to slide up due to the bolts turning. Then you have to make sure the plate is aligned. Would be better if it just slides on and fits. You will need two people to install.

Is There Supposed to Be Gap Between Side Plates on Demco Autoslide Locking Plate for Lippert Rhino
I spoke to Demco about the Demco Autoslide Locking Plate for Lippert Rhino Pin Boxes part # DM76FR, the side plates are supposed to be angled as that's what provides the clamping force. I would just make sure you have the bolts torqued fully to the amount specificed in the instructions as that may reduce the amount of gap but nonetheless, it's normal.

What I think you are asking is, how to set-up the hitch with the Rhino Box as the narrow width of the pin box does not engage the capture plates on your Demco Hijacker 5th Wheel hitch. Demco recommends using a 3/16" or thinner Lube Plate # 16721 with their Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM8550035. With the addition of the Demco Autoslide Locking Plate for Lippert Rhino Pin Boxes # DM76FR you have I recommend using a dry lube on the mating surfaces to reduce wear. A good silicone dry lube like the Spray # RM-747 will not attract and hold dirt like grease.

I do see your Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM8550035 is missing the Capture Plate # DM14743-95 and other components on the Head # DM6081. And as you have a Rhino pin box you need the Locking Plate # DM76FR as well to prevent the Demco from turning unless the trailer is turning. Since you don't have either of the parts on the head this is why your hitch slid back the way it did.

If you're referring to the locking plates that sit on the head of the Demco Hijacker and clamps onto the pin box to lock the head to it then you'll need part # DM6171 if you have a Trailair or Rota-Flex pin box or part # DM76FR if you have a Lippert Rhino pin box. Based on your description of the pin box you most likely have the Lippert Rhino so you'd want to go with the # DM76FR. While we do have some replacement pin boxes for the Rhino pin box, we'll have to look at an alternative setup since there are no Sidewinder replacements for your application. For your application you can use the Demco Hijacker Autoslide which essentially accomplishes the same thing as the Sidewinder pin box for your short bed 2022 Ford F-350 Super Duty. Getting Rid Of The Play In The Demco Hijacker Autoslide Locking Plate For Rhino Pin Boxes
There may be a little play on the bottom of the Demco Hijacker Autoslide Locking Plate for Lippert Rhino Pin Boxes. part # DM76FR, to account for the different machining tolerances, but the top plates should hold it snug and remove the play. I did speak with someone from Demco and they said that once this is installed and torqued to spec that you should not see any of the play that you are referring to in your question.
