Recommended 7-Way Connector for a 2012 Toyota Tacoma w/ the Factory Tow Package

Updated 07/11/2025 | Published 07/09/2025

Question:

I have a 2012 tacoma with factory 7 pin connector and it has a square plug coming from the truck harness. Your replacement kit shows a round plug. do you offer ones with a square plug? Or do i have to cut both connectors off and solder them together.

Hey Michael. It sounds like you're going too far back. The Reese Replacement 7-Way RV-Style Trailer Connector item # 85219 connects to your factory 7-way right behind the one you have now. You don't need to go all the way back to the square connector. Item # 85219 plugs into what's called a USCAR connector.

Why are you needing to replace your 7-way connector?

i was trail riding and the 7 pin connector was ripped off the truck. and it separated the harness at the square plug close to the spare tire.

@Michael Thanks for all of that additional information! It completely changes my answer. We do not have a 7-way connector that goes back to your Tacoma's square factory wiring connector. You would need to check with an auto parts store or Toyota for that wiring harness. My only solution to get your Tacoma set back up with a 7-way connector would be to install the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector item # C55513 and then add the Universal Installation Kit item # ETBC7. Those parts are what we use to add a 7-way connector to the 2012 Toyota Tacoma's without the factory tow package.
