Video Transcript for Detailed Breakdown of the Curt Tow Bar Extension Cord w/ Socket

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com Today we're going to take a look at this Curt eight-foot-long tow bar, seven-way RV to seven-way coiled extension cord with the seven-way socket. Now, this is ideal for connecting your motor home to your tow vehicle for flat towing. It does include this nice seven-way socket that'll wire into the front of your towed vehicle. And that'll provide the operation of the taillights brake lights, reverse lights, turn signals, electric brakes and auxiliary power on your tow vehicle. The cap adapter cord itself connects the seven-way blade-style connector on your RV to the seven-way connector that mounts on your tow vehicle. So basically, once you have the socket installed on the front, you just take your cord, plug it in just like that.

Once you get it plugged in that little dropdown has a little hook on it and it holds it in there to keep it from wiggling out. Basically you can see, locks into place and then to remove it, just open the lid and then pull your plug right out just like that. Now this coil cord will stretch up to eight feet in length. What's nice you can see it is coiled, so it does prevent the wires from dragging on the ground. And on the inside of this cord is seven 14-gauge size wires.

The ends on these are a mole.. durable molded plastic construction, helps resist corrosion and you can see the cord itself has nice bright blue color to it for easy visibility but that should do it for the review on this Curt eight-foot-long tow bar, seven-way RV to seven-way coiled extension cord with the seven-way socket..

It is working great. Have no issue with it

by:

I never had a single problem with this setup. The 10 footer would have been better for creating additional slack. I secure with rubberized bungies mounted to the toad and my rig to prevent possible over extension resulting in partial or full disconnect.

by:

The video explains that the coiled power cord hooks to the rv and goes to the female trailer connector, that comes with the power cord, that can be installed on the front of the towed vehicle. But it requires a wiring harness to plug into the rear of the female connector to wire into the towed vehicle, that doesn’t seem to be listed as available from trailer. The video is misleading in that you have all you need to finish the connection to the towed vehicle

by:

Arrived quicker than I expected which is great. Interesting that it comes with a 7 way plug, but it doesn't come with the corresponding male plug. This, to me, makes no sense. I guess someone thinks that there is a receptacle plug just hanging out on either the coach or the towed vehicle.
Just know that you will probably need to drop another 20 bucks to buy the plug and harness to compete the install.

Nicole was patient, helpful, and extremely pleasant

Working great. No problems with it.

by:

Exactly as advertised

by:

The cord is exactly as advertised and initial quality seems very good. Haven’t had any issues in the first year but a product like this should last minimum 3 years so it’s too early for a review in my opinion. So far so good, hopefully this one doesn't disappoint.

by:

These are well made and stronger than I thought they would be. With the installation video I feel I can do the job easily.

by:

Once again one email to etrailer and I get a response within a day with answers to what I need. So easy and fast. You are the best!

by:

I hate to sound like a broken record every time I give a review, but the service from you guys and follow up is always top notch. You get a 10 in every department.
Thank you
Otis Jackson

Hello Bob, No, it does not. You can use the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25 which includes 14 AWG wire. What kind of car are you flat towing? Are you new to the flat tow world, of just getting a new vehicle set-up?

Hey Wade, Curt doesn't offer a version of the Curt Tow Bar 7-Way Coiled Power Cord w/ 7-Way Socket # C39HR without the 7-way socket. Only way to order it is with it including the 7-way. We also don't have any other similar 7-way to 7-way coiled adapters either.

  • 7-Way RV to 7-Way Dinghy Tow Bar Wiring Extension
Thanks so much for the photos they were super helpful, and what you have is a 7-way on the RV and 7-way on your Jeep, and we do have one option for an extension cord that will work for you: - Curt Tow Bar Extension Cord w/ Socket - Coiled - 7-Way RV - 96" Cord # C39HR This cord will stretch up to 8 feet long which will easily span the width between your connectors. • Is There an Extension Cord Available to Extend a 7-Way Connector
The Curt Tow Bar Extension Cord w/ Socket # C39HR would not be the best choice for what you are needing. Instead you will want to go with the Hopkins Endurance Universal 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 7-Way RV Extension Cord # HM20049. The Hopkins Endurance Universal 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 7-Way RV Extension Cord # HM20049 is an 8' extension for your 7-way that will provide a female end on one side and a male end on the other.

  • Recommended 7-Way Connector w/ Dual Trailer or Male Connectors
I've never heard of or seen a female to female 7-way connector and based off of what you are describing having on your vehicles and looking at I think you need the Bargman 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector item # 50-67-210. This cable has a double ended standard RV style 7-way connector on either end and is 8' long. The item # 50-67-210 would be considered as having two male ends or what's referred to as a trailer connector. Your standard 7-way connector mounted on any vehicle or RV...

  • What Gauge Wire Does The Curt Tow Bar Extension Cord C39HR Use?
Hello Mark. I reached out to the folks at Curt, and I was told that the Curt Tow Bar Extension Cord # C39HR uses 12 gauge wire for power and ground. The other 5 wires are 14 gauge. They said that because it isn't a long cord, the gauge doesn't need to be what it normally would be in your vehicle.

  • 7-Way Blade To 7-Way Blade Coiled Extension Cable Availability
While we don't currently carry just the coiled cable of the Curt Tow Bar Extension Cord w/ Socket # C39HR we do carry the Bargman 7-Way, RV-Style Connector w/ 8' Long Coiled Cable # 54006-044, which you could add the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector # PK12706 to and get a 7 to 7 blade style coiled extension cable. I've attached a video below where Dave will walk you through wiring the connector to the cable at the 9 minute mark.

  • Is There A 7-Way Male To 7-Way Male Extension Cable Available
Hey John, If tow bar has channels to hold up the cable then I recommend the # 50-67-210. If it doesn't have channels you can go with the # C39HR instead since it has a coiled design that you can wrap it around the tow bar to keep it it from dragging.

  • 7-Way for 2006 Chevy Silverado for Truck Bed for Truck Camper
Hey Matt, to add a 7-way into the bed of your 2006 Chevy Silverado you'd want the part # 41157 which was designed for this and a confirmed fit for your truck. For a replacement 7-way that also has a 5-way you'd want the part # HM48470. The only 7-way to 7-way coiled adapter we have is the part # C39HR.
