Hey Don! If you don't already have a 4-way that is where you need to start. You can add a 4-way using the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # 55540. Once that is installed you will upgrade it to a 7-way using the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # ETBC7. This kit comes with the adapter, wiring, and everything else you need to add a 7-way.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED52VR. The Liberty is simple, reliable, and won't take up extra space in the cab of your van. The main unit installs behind the dash so only the control knob will be visible. The knob adjusts the braking power and acts as the manual override.

I went ahead and attached some installation videos below for your reference. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out in the comments.

Hey Don, did the installation of the 7-way kit and the Tekonsha P3 brake controller go smoothly on your van? I’m curious to know how it worked out for you because it could help others looking to set up their van for towing.
