Does the Extra Fascia Piece Get Reinstalled on 2018 Mazda CX-5 When Installing Trailer Hitch?

Updated 06/06/2025 | Published 06/02/2025

Question:

I’m installing a class 3 hitch on my 2018 Mazda CX-5. However, it’s the Grand Touring model. And it has an extra facia piece on the rear bumper. Do I need to remove this piece permanently to allow the hitch to fit properly? Thank you.

Hello Andrew,

Great question. When installing the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 76138 the extra fascia piece does NOT get reinstalled. I attached an image of the piece I believe you are referring to, if it is a different piece please let me know.

What do you plan on using the hitch for?

Kate F. This is not the additional piece that comes on the Grand Touring model that I was referring to. The piece you show comes with all CX-5 models and I will not reinstall that piece. However, my model (GT) has a thick, silver accent piece that fits on the outside of the bumper facia. Sorry, I don’t know how to attach my photo.

@AndrewC Got it Andrew! The silver trim piece interferes with the hitch fitment and is not compatible with reinstallation. We have not done an install on the Grand Touring so it took a little research, it would be nice if they could include all that information in the instructions.

@AndrewC Good luck! Remember to try to clean out the holes a little before installing, by getting any welds or debris out of the pre-existing holes helps A LOT! Let me know how it goes.
