Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2017 Mazda CX-5 - Draw-Tite

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Mazda CX-5, we're gonna be taking a look at, and showing you how to install, the Draw-Tite Class III Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number: 76138. So here's what our hitch looks like once we have it fully installed. Now, it is gonna sit behind the bumper nicely, and all we're really gonna see is that receiver tube sticking out. It's a Class III hitch, which means it's gonna give us that 2" by 2" receiver tube opening. And as you can see, it's gonna have a reinforced collar, not only giving it added strength, but just a nice overall finished look. Now, where we're gonna mount our accessories is gonna be back here in the forward hole, and it's gonna accept a standard 5/8" pin and clip.

Now, these aren't included but you can pick them up on our website using part number: PC3. The secondary hole towards the back of our receiver, that's gonna be for a J-pin stabilization device. And this is gonna be great because it's gonna apply pressure to our accessory and keep it from rattling around when we're going down the road. It is a locking pin, it's gonna come with two keys, and you can pick one of these up on our website using part number: 63201.The 675 pound tongue weight of your hitch is gonna be more than enough for most bike racks all the way up to five bikes, or many cargo carrier options. Our hitch is not rated for weight distribution systems, but the 4,500 pound gross trailer weight rating is ideal for pulling a small trailer.

Just make sure to double check your owner's manual and make sure you're not exceeding the manufacturers recommended weight. The safety chain connection points are gonna be welded on the bottom and it's gonna be a loop-style. And as you can see, we're not gonna have too much trouble getting the hooks on or off, and the slight offset of them from where our hitch pin hole is, is gonna make it that much easier. We're not gonna have to worry about too much interference with any kind of locking device, or the hitch pin itself.I'd like to give you a few measurements that will help you when deciding for accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper, it's gonna be right about 4".

And from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, it's gonna be right about 13".Now that we've seen what the hitch looks like, gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin your installation, we're gonna come to the very back of our vehicle, and just right underneath the bumper we're gonna have a plastic panel that we're gonna have to remove. We're gonna have one plastic push pin, one on each side. To remove those I'm gonna take a flathead screwdriver. There's gonna be a little indention on either side, and you're gonna want to pop out that center section first, which will release the tension, then we can pop the rest of the clip out.

And we'll go ahead and do that for the other one, too. Now, if we just move towards the center just a little bit, there's gonna be a square hole right there. We're gonna take our screwdriver, there's gonna be a small tab, we're gonna push in on that tab. We're just gonna release the plastic panel and then we can pull it down. There's gonna be one on each side. Now, in order to get our hitch in place, we're gonna need to lower our exhaust down. Before we do, I'm gonna take a little bit of spray lubricant and I'm gonna spray down the rubber isolator, making it a little bit easier to pull that hanger out. And we're gonna have one right next to our tailpipe, and then one right behind it. And we're gonna have two on each side, so we can go ahead and spray the other ones also. I'm just gonna take a pry bar, and your main goal here is just to slide that rubber isolator off of the post here so that we can lower it down. Now that we have one removed, we're gonna go ahead and put a strap to support our exhaust so it doesn't fall down all the way. Just gonna want to find a sturdy location to put your strap up, and then we can go ahead and work on removing the rest of the hangers. You're gonna want to adjust your strap so that you have enough room to get the hitch in between the exhaust and the bumper here. You just don't want your exhaust to hang down too far.We come to the very back of our frame rail, we're gonna see we have a rather large hole. And if we move forward just before our rubber hanger for our exhaust, we're gonna have two oblong holes. Now, the one closer to the front of the vehicle is gonna be our forward attachment point, and then the large hole is gonna be our access hole and our rear attachment point. We'll go ahead and take the fish wire that they provide in our kit, put the coiled end into the frame, and we're gonna feed it back til we can reach it or have it come out through the access hole. Once you have your pull wire through, you're gonna take your square spacer block and you're gonna go over the coiled end, and then you're gonna thread on your 1/2" carriage bolt onto the coiled end. And then one piece at a time, we're gonna take our spacer block and feed it into the frame, and then we're gonna push the bolt into the frame. Then you take your pull wire, start pulling it through until the bolt drops down.At our rear attachment point, we're gonna be using the reverse pull wire method. You're gonna take your pull wire, slide your spacer block over it, and then thread that carriage bolt on top. Then we're gonna feed our bolt in first, and then push our spacer block into the frame as well, then we're gonna pull it all back down through. And we'll do that for the other side. Now, with an extra set of hands, we're gonna lift our hitch over our exhaust. We're gonna put our bolt leads through the corresponding holes. You may need to pull on the fascia just a little bit to get everything in place. We're gonna line up our hitch with the bolts coming out of our frame. Remove the bolt leads. Then we're gonna take that conical tooth washer and nut, and secure everything in place. And once you have one bolt on each side it should support itself so we can get the rest of our hardware in place. I'm gonna come back with a 3/4" socket and snug up all my hardware. Now, the rearmost bolts, to get those snugged down, we may have to use either an extension or a swivel. I'm gonna repeat that for all the remaining hardware. We're gonna come back, again with a 3/4" socket, and we're gonna torque all of our hardware down. We're gonna find that specification in our instructions. We'll repeat that for all the remaining hardware. I'm gonna spray a little more spray lubricant on our exhaust hangers, making it that much easier to get them back in place. Now, when we go to put our exhaust in place, we're gonna do the rear hangers first. I'm gonna do one side, get one side started, then we can come to the other side and push our exhaust far forward to the other side that we're working on. Then we can slide our hanger in place. And once we have them all back in place, we can go ahead and remove the strap. And that'll finish up your look at the Draw-Tite Class III Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number: 76138, on our 2017 Mazda CX-5.

Just received and installed. Good quality, great custom fit and moderately easy installation. It took me about an hour start to finish to install and I am far from professional. It would have been much easier with a second set of hands, but I did it alone and managed. 770630

DrawTite trailer hitch fit my CX-5 as advertised. Installation was very straight forward particularly due to the installation videos available on the etrailer web site. The Tekonsha wiring harness was simple to install once all of the interior trim was removed; something the etrailer video made easy. When I decided to purchase a trailer I knew that I'd have to get a hitch for my vehicle. Since I do not routinely pull trailers I knew little about hitches and the other components associated with them. After looking around online I found etrailers.com. I called customer service and was connected to a very helpful person named Chedi. He explained the products available and what I'd need for my particular setup. My purchasing experience with etrailers was very good; from ordering, to receiving, to the installation. Thank you etrailers. 574870

Product Was good and fit perfectly on my car.Installation is super easy as with instructions and videos. This is my first time installing a hitch so initially I struggled as due to lack of help. After a little research and with the help of a friend Installed in 15 Mins(Research and initials trail not counted).Things to remember. 1)Car ramps will help where we can pick from [hardware store]. 2)Flat head screwdriver and soap water is super good option for removing Exhaust from hangers. 3)Rubber bushes should be on top hooks and facing front side of the car(Not back side to-wards trunk). 4)Remove one facia screw(plastic clip) for easy adjustment which was not demonstrated in the video but advised in the manual. 5)Better to keep the fish wires of the back bolts to avoid pushing them inside the frame.(C-retention rings will help where manufacturer is not providing). 6)Second person will make the job easy. Paint Quality is very very poor which is pealing out as mentioned by others in this forum. Installed my Kuat rack which comes with stabilizer and fits perfect. yet to test on the roads. Pics or not so clear. 519916

The hitch is great functionally, seems very solid and does what it’s supposed to do. It’s not very difficult to install and on the CX-5 it looks great without sticking out too much. What bothers me is the manufacturer’s claim that “The combination of an e-coat base and a powder coat finish provides excellent rust protection”. This is far from truth. The top coat started bubbling and peeling off and the hitch started rusting after less than 2 months after installation before even seeing any snow (see attached picture). I understand if this happened after a long and heavy winter but that was not the case. I’m not impressed with the top coat quality at all. 557444

The trailer hitch fit well onto the frame of the Mazda CX-5. It was a little difficult to install by myself. Really would have been much easier with two people. But etrailer did not indicate that it was a one-man job. It's obvious that it is a well built trailer hitch - Strong, heavy, and as I said before, fit well. The instructions which came with it did not seem all that helpful. Not sure if I could have installed the hitch if that were the only information I had. Fortunately, there were various videos I was able to find through YouTube and on the etrailer site which were closely related to my situation. 483458

Ive only needed to use it a few times in the year that I had it. But it has always worked fine without issue. The paint has also held up well. No problems.

Purchased for a 2018 Mazda CX 5. Hitch fit well. Important to leave rear rubber muffler hangers on top hanger; push all the way back in once you have the muffler off. Not enough space between hitch and muffler hanger, to get back on, if you don't. Rear threshold panel comes off like every other year, but side panels have one push button trim tab on each side, then two trim pops along rear hatch sides(see pictures), 1 screw in hold down latches, and in front, each side. Bolts on hold downs, back left and right and in the front. Trim will pop right off, but I only moved it out enough to work. On passenger side, push trim in place first before pushing in the seat latch. It has a pop attachment on it. There is a grommet on the left side that you can run a power wire through and a good ground bolt. The 2018, has full undercover and that has to be removed to run the wire up to the battery. Takes pictures before you start. It was a real pain, but that is what I started and finished. The trailer harness could have been about 6 inches longer. It doesn't quite reach the hitch and I stuck the power module as far back on the left side, as I could. Everything looks good and it works, but it took me, working by myself, a lot longer than the times listed.. 473732

After one year and many miles of towing and carrying a rear rack, this hitch has worked well. I especially like the J pin stabilizer pin that I use with it. It keeps the tow bar and ball solid so there it no rattle. Well worth the extra cost.

As usual etrailer made sure my Draw-Tite hitch arrived quickly to my door step. While the item was packaged nicely, It was a little disappointing to see multiple chips in the powder coating upon opening it up. While the chips will make no difference in the performance of the hitch, it was a little frustrating. Draw-Tite makes a quality product and I can't wait to get it installed. I would have given the hitch 5 stars if it wasn't for the powder coating chips. 466639

It works great. I have only used it for a platform and that worked well on our long trip from PA to Honduras. This is not a fault of the hitch but we did scrape some speed bumps in Guatemala. I have never seen such nasty speed bumps. 10 mph is too fast. The instructions for routing the lighting wires were a little vague, possibly generic for more than one model but we got the lighting installed. I have not had to use them though. 572011

I was happy that the product was packaged very professionally. Sometimes when you order a hunk of steel like this, the seller just wraps the ends and puts it on a truck and it gets scratched and dinged. The product was delivered in a sturdy etrailer box. Installation was on a 2014 cx-5. I chose to remove the muffler, which took about ten minutes. The hardest part of installation was getting the rear exhaust hangers back on. 1 hour total for me. The product itself is very sturdy...it is a big chunk of metal. Note that the towing capacity of my cx-5 is much lower than what this hitch is rated for. My reasoning for getting a 2 inch hitch was so that I could swap the hitch mount bike rack between my vehicles, and there are more used 2 inch bike rack options out there on craigslist than 1.25... just a tip. Dont plan on pulling much more with your CX-5 than some bikes or maybe a very small trailer. 451139

Great product. I watched the video to walk me through the install. Found that by just forcing a short dowel rod to push the rubber exhaust mounts off their pins worked better than prying them off. This item would be perfect if the rear corners we're cut at a 45 degree angle instead of square cut. A 45 degree cut eliminates the need to bend the bumper facia to slide the hitch to it's mounting position. I mounted a 2x2 on my floor jack, which gave me a second set of hands to lift the hitch in place. Now to grab a bike rack! 552643

I haven't used the hitch yet but installation was pretty straight forward. I used the video and it took me 1 1/2 hours to get everything done, but it could be much quicker for someone with all the right tools who knew what they were doing. I didn't have jack stands to raise the car so I pulled the passenger side of the car up onto a curb to at least give some extra room on one side. I used a large screw driver to get the rubber things which hold the muffler system off. Holding the hitch up while screwing on the bolts was a bit tricky but my wife and I got under the car and I held it up while she screwed on the bolts. Make sure you wear eye glasses so you don't get junk in your eye! I was able to use the torque wrench to tighten the forward bolts appropriately but I didn't have the right size extension to use it on the rear bolts so I just used a ratchet to tighten it as much as I could. I'm only using it for a bike rack so I'm not worried. 416888

Delivery and product were excellent. With the helpful videos, installation was straightforward. I realize the item description said a part may be needed to be cut for the 2017 Mazda CX-5 GT model, but it would have been nice to have a custom made hitch fit perfectly without discarding a piece of the plastic under the bumper. There is a strip of plastic that needs to be removed and discarded with a flathead screwdriver for the hitch to fit on the GT model. Besides that, everything was of great quality and craftsmanship. After reading other reviews, I listened to others and left the rubber exhaust hangers on the top hooks, on the car, rather than on the exhaust itself. One thing to add was when I rotated the hanger to make installing the hitch easier, I rotated it back towards the rear, which I later learned took a little effort rotating it all the way forward and down to reattach the exhaust. I should have rotated the oval hanger forward, towards the front, which would have taken no effort rotating back down to reattach the exhaust. Don't know if that makes any sense, but I'll attach some photos for reference. 417989

Fine hitch, very sturdy. Arrived super quick from etrailer. Mounts slightly recessed from bumper with no bumper cuts necessary. Bought to use with single 1UP USA bike rack and the combo is rock solid with my 2017 Mazda CX-5 GT. Was worried that need to insert the rack 4+" into hitch receiver might not allow rack to clear the bumper when in its fold up position. etrailer looked at schematic and assured me it would. They were right! No issues. My only advice, if you plan to use the 1UP double rack AND keep it on the car all the time, you might choose a hitch that extends about .5" further out. This would allow the hatch door to clear the double rack in full fold up position and stay within 1UP insertion requirements. The door easily clears the single rack. Tried it with a 1UP add on (turning my single rack into a double) in full vertical fold up and was surprised to find it almost cleared as well when right at the minimum insertion! Anyway, fine hitch, thanks etrailer! 406513

I installed the hitch on a 2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring. The trailer hitch installed as described in the instructions and as shown in the video. However, reinstalling the muffler was a different story. I left the rubber hangers on the vehicle as shown in the video and as recommended by others. The front rubber hangers were easy to install. However, the side rails of the hitch prevent the "rear" rubber hangers from moving to the side which is necessary when installing the metal hanger pin into the rubber hanger's hole. There is a hole in the side rails that allows very limited movement of the metal pin but no movement of the rubber hanger which is required to get the last hanger installed. I was able to get one side in easily but attaching the other "rear" isolator took an inordinate amount of time, effort and forcing. I would not recommend this particular hitch if there is another option available. Other than the muffler installation, the hitch fits well. One point I would make about the hitch construction, the hitch is rated for and built for over twice my vehicles rated towing capacity. Building a hitch with metal thickness and strength three times that of the frame that it is attached to, provides no additional benefit but adds significantly more weight than is needed. With today's vehicles, 20 unnecessary pounds does make a difference. The video for installation of the harness was for a 2016 and the interior trim panels of my 2017 are completely different so I may wait till I can find a video on the 2017 model. 436592

2017 Mazda CX5 -Purchased for hauling bikes/bike rack -Reasons for purchase over other hitches: Good instructions and video , I was confident this would fit my vehicle. Price. No Modifications to vehicle other than removing small trim piece. 2” is more versatile and can be used for other/bigger things in the future. Can be upgraded with wiring to tow larger things like trailers/campers. Can easily be Removed if no longer needed/wanted/sold. Product arrived promptly. Installation took approx 60minutes from taking it out of the box in my garage with NO jacks/ramps/lifts. I had my 13 year old son help for a few minutes to hold one side as I lifted it into place. Recommended Tools are a MUST. Disappointed that out of the box the paint was already flaking off! I did not bother complaining or returning....because after all this is going UNDER A Car.... BUT....the paint Should Survive Shipping! 503157

The product works good as expected, I'm not one to hold a grudge but my experience with etrailer was less than spectacular, the hardware/mounting kit was not in the box when I received the hitch and it took 3 weeks for them to get me a replacement hardware kit and that was still missing parts... several emails and phonecalls were needed to get a product that I could install and use. probably won't be a return customer. 574590

This thing is heavy duty, excellent quality. I'm only using it for a bike rack but if you're going to tow a trailer this is the one you want. I watched the install video and it was very simple. I did use a floor jack as I did it alone. I ordered it on Monday late afternoon and it arrived on Thursday. Very happy, exceeded my expectations and looks great. 422155

Installation was pretty straight forward, but I did have to bend the rear upper hangers of the exhaust, so they could clear the mounting brackets for the hitch. Be sure to watch the video on this site!!! It will give some good pointers!!! Particularly where to put the "rubbers" for the rear exhaust mounts!! (HINT: Leave them on the car's hangers! Once the hitch is in place, you can not access two of the hangers!!) If you have no one to help you, you can use the stock CX-5 roadside jack to hold one side in place, while you are working on the other side! I do recommend that you leave the fishing wires on the bolts until you have the hitch up in place, and only remove them one at a time, as you are ready to put the nuts and washers on! (I had 2 bolts get knocked up into the frame, and had to make new fishing tools to get the bolts back into place.) I'll be using the new hitch to pull a trailer from Bakersfield, CA. to Eastern Montana. I'm sorry for the quality of the pictures, the camera on the phone is horrid! 408594

This hitch is nice and beefy. Way over the limits for my Mazda, but I like the added safety. Install was a breeze. Again I followed the video. Grease those exhaust hangars! they slide right off. The hardware was great and easy to pull through. I would say the hardest part was getting the nuts torqued. One or two spots has little room depending on the tool you have. Once installed it is a beautiful thing! Get it! 775359

  • Comparing Draw-Tite and Curt Trailer Hitch for 2018 Mazda CX-5
The biggest difference between the Draw-Tite # 76138 trailer hitch and the Curt # C13315 trailer hitch that fit your 2018 Mazda CX-5 is the Draw-Tite has a higher tongue weight (675 lbs) and towing (4,500 lbs) capacity than the Curt (600 lbs tongue weight, 4,000 lbs towing). While you should never exceed the towing capacity outlined in your '18 Mazda CX-5's owner's manual I do recommend going the Draw-Tite # 76138 because those capacities speak to its strength and durability. • Is there a Difference in the Trailer Hitches for a 2016 and 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring
The announced differences between the 2016 and 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 would not affect fit. The hitch fits are actually the same (for the most part) for both 2016 and 2016.5 models. For example Draw-Tite hitch # 76138 fits both. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip,...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring
You're smart to want the flexibility of a 2 inch hitch receiver; that will offer you many more options in terms of accessories than the smaller 1-1/4 inch receiver. With that in mind, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 76138 for your 2017 Mazda CX-5, which is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver. There are no drawbacks to installing this hitch over its Class II counterpart, the Draw-Tite # 36601, as the Class III offers the flexibility you mentioned and is actually three pounds lighter...

  • What Parts are Needed to Tow a Trailer with a 2016 Mazda CX-5 and How Much Can it Tow
So I pulled up an online copy of your owner's manual to see if I can help you make some sense of it. One thing is for sure, the terminology is pretty misleading and can be confusing. The main takeway, I think you need to be concerned with is the gross combined vehicle rating (GCWR). It also talks about the total trailer weight (TTW) or 2,000 pounds but when you read what they define as the TTW it gets too confusing. I think you can simplify it by using the GCWR which the manual states...

  • Does the Draw-Tite # 76138 Come with Wiring to Tow a Trailer with a 2018 Mazda CX-5
Our trailer hitches like the Draw-Tite # 76138, which is a confirmed fit for your 2018 Mazda CX-5, do not come with electrical, but I can point you in the right direction for your Mazda. I recommend going with the Tekonsha T-One # 118746 which plugs in behind your tail lights and the draws power from the battery on your CX-5 via the 12V power lead. This bypasses the wiring on your CX-5 so that any issues on your trailer to not trickle back to your tow vehicle. You also need a ball...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Mazda CX-5
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2018 Mazda CX-5 is the Draw Tite part # 76138 because it has a 2 inch hitch opening (most accessories are made for this size), it has plenty of towing capacity, and because it has a hidden crosstube which makes it a bit less visible too. See picture. I also attached an install video for the hitch. For trailer wiring the kit I recommend is the T-One kit part # 118746 because it does not require splicing to your vehicle's taillights and because it...

  • Will Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch from 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 Fit 2019 Mazda CX-5
I have good news! There haven't been any significant changes to the rear design of the Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring since your previous 2016.5 model. This means your existing Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch # 76138 will bolt onto your new 2019 CX-5 without issue. For a new hardware kit you can use part # RHK. Just like you did on your 2016.5 Mazda CX-5, you will need to remove the additional underbody trim piece that the Grand Touring model is equipped with for installation. I...

  • Will Using Ramps Allow Enough Clearance to Lower 2018 Mazda CX-5 Exhaust to Install Trailer Hitch
Your ramps will be more than tall enough to lower the exhaust when installing a trailer hitch on your 2018 Mazda CX-5. The exhaust only has to come down a few inches to get the hitch into position. The exhaust pipes won't even have to go as low as the bottoms of the tires so with the vehicle up even higher, in this case on ramps, you will have more than enough room. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball...

  • Choosing Beteween Curt or Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitches for 2020 Mazda CX-5
Draw-Tite has been around a lot longer than Curt, but both make a high quality product, you can't go wrong either way. If your CX-5 has a Diesel motor, you'll use the Draw-Tite Class III hitch, part # DR44FR which is the only fit offered. If you have the gasoline engine, you'll have the choice between the Curt # C13315 or the Draw-Tite # 76138 that you'd looked at. Both hitches are a concealed design, which means that once they're installed, everything but the square receiver tube and...

  • Can Draw-Tite Hitch for 2019 Mazda CX-5 Tow Motorcycle on Trailer
The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch # 76138 that fits your 2019 Mazda CX-5 will absolutely be sufficient to tow a 680 lbs motorcycle; it has a 4,500 lb towing capacity and 675 lb tongue weight capacity so it will very easily tow a trailer with a motorcycle on it. This would be the only way to transport a 680 lb motorcycle with this vehicle because it is too heavy to use a hitch-mounted motorcycle carrier. To tow a trailer you will also need a trailer wiring harness if you don't have...

  • Best Trailer Wiring Harness for 2016 Mazda CX-5
Of the trailer wiring harnesses available for your 2016 Mazda CX-5 I lean towards the Tekonsha # 118563. All three function and install in basically the same way, but our installers prefer Tekonsha over Curt because they tend be less problematic later on and I see no reason to pay the much higher price for the Hopkins. So for my money it's the Tekonsha. I've linked an install video for you as well. If you haven't already selected a trailer hitch receiver I recommend the Draw-Tite,...

  • Comparing Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitches for 2019 Mazda CX-5
You are correct that there are two 2" trailer hitches available for your 2019 Mazda CX-5; the Draw-Tite Class III # 76138 and the Draw-Tite Class III # DR44FR. The difference between the two models has to do with their specific design in terms of fit application. If you don't have the Diesel model CX-5 the correct hitch is the Draw-Tite # 76138. If you do have the Diesel you will need the Draw-Tite # DR44FR for proper fitment. I have attached the installation instructions for both...

  • Towing Capacity of 2018 Mazda CX-5
Based on my research your 2018 Mazda CX-5 AWD has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds. I also recommend verifying this by checking your copy of the owner's manual or by visiting a local Mazda dealer with your VIN. If you are looking to tow a trailer you will need a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and ball mount. Starting with the trailer hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 76138. This Class III hitch is confirmed to fit your vehicle and will use...

  • Where is Underbody Piece That Needs to Be Removed on 2019 Mazda CX-5 GT for Trailer Hitch
You are right that on the Grand Touring model of your 2019 Mazda CX-5 there is an underbody trim piece that needs to be removed when installing the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch # 76138 (this is the case with the other Class III hitch available for your vehicle as well). This is really just a long plastic piece that simply gets popped off with a flat-head screwdriver. It isn't difficult at all and it won't affect the integrity of the rear bumper on your Mazda. It's essentially a...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver, Cargo Carrier, and Roof Rack for 2018 Mazda CX-5
For your 2018 Mazda CX-5, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76138 which is a 2 inch receiver rated for up to 675 lbs tongue weight. This is an easy installation with no drilling required. I recommend using the Tow Ready J-Pin Stabilization Pin and Barrel Lockset for 2" Trailer Hitches # 63201 made for this hitch to give you security and anti-rattle stability for your cargo carrier. For your cargo carrier, I recommend the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18153....

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch For 2015 Mazda CX-5 AWD To Tow Bass Boat
I did some research and your 2015 Mazda CX-5s have a towing capacity of 2,000-lbs or less. Be sure to check your owner's manual for your specific towing capacity because that amount is your maximum capacity. To tow your boat, you will need: trailer hitch, wiring harness, ball mount, hitch ball, and hitch pin. To start, you will need a trailer hitch. I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, Item # 76138, because it is a Class III hitch with more than enough towing...

The Curt # C13315 and the Draw Tite part # 76138 for your 2019 Mazda CX-5 are both really great options that would both work great for you, but if I had to pick one over the other I would go with the Curt as it is a little less visible at the rear of the vehicle than the Draw Tite. I attached a picture that shows both hitches installed and you can see the Curt has a smaller appearance at the rear of the vehicle. The big difference being a bracket on top of the hitch tube that I pointed...

  • What Rear Trim Piece Needs to be Removed to Install Draw Tite Hitch 2018 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring
On your 2018 Mazda CX-5 Touring model there is a trim piece on the bottom center of the rear bumper area, about 2 feet, long L-shaped, and held in place by two push pin connectors. This trim piece must be removed to install Drawtite Hitch #76138. It cannot be reinstalled as the hitch fills the area under the bumper it is affixed to. See attached picture.

  • Determining Correct Trailer Hitch for 2016 Mazda CX-5
The installation process will vary slightly depending on whether you have the 2016 or the mid-year 2016.5 model Mazda CX-5 but the available trailer hitches themselves will not change. For whichever model 2016 CX-5 you have the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Trailer Hitch # 76138 that you were looking at will work perfectly. I really like this hitch because of its hidden crosstube design that allows for a sleek OEM appearance where only the 2 inch receiver is visible behind the vehicle....

  • 2 inch Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2016.5 Mazda CX-5
For your 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 the best 2 inch trailer hitch solution is the Draw Tite part # 76138. Reason being it has the best towing capacities and unlike the Curt trailer hitch it does not require a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack.

  • Does Rear Fascia of 2019 Mazda CX-5 Need to Remove to Install Draw Tite Trailer Hitch
Only the Grand Touring version of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 needs to have an appearance panel permanently removed from the underside of the vehicle to install a hitch like the # 76138. The standard 2019 Mazda CX-5 does not require this. Basically the panel is there to make the underside of the vehicle look sleeker. It's not needed aside from that.

  • Can Wiring Harness be Installed After Hitch on 2017 Mazda CX-5?
To answer your first question, yes, you would be able to install wiring after you have put in Draw-Tite # 76138. In regards to your second question, the answer is it depends on the harness. For example, Curt T-Connector # C56377 is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Mazda CX-5, and it could be installed without drilling.
