Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

This is a great quality product with excellent installation support that I have come to expect from etrailer! My hitch receiver came with all hardware and ingenious "fish wires" to install this unit making it a simple procedure. For a person like me doing this in my driveway I can say that having an assistant, while not necessary, would make this install much easier. Other suggestions to future installers is that the latest etrailer video for this Draw Tite is a must watch. Additional suggestions are: leave all 4 rubber muffler hangers on the top frame hanger posts, twist the rearward pair to point to the front of the car before mounting the unit and have a deep and shallow (standard depth) 19mm or 3/4 inch socket for your torque wrench since room is limited.

- 76138
by:

I was able to install the hitch by myself. Took me about 1 hour and the most difficult part was the muffler rubber attachment. The wires included are a very clever solution getting those screws inside the car frame!! Overall I had fun installing it and it’s a solid hitch. I’m in my mid 40’s and fairly fit. I can see this being not so easy for folks not very handy and in bad shape but you can get it installed by a shop for 50$ If that’s a problem. Shipping was incredibly fast and got it in 3 days. 100% recommended

This hitch was easy to install with the video instructions etrailer provided. I did not have to jack my Mazda CX-5 but the wheels are 19-inch. It was helpful to have someone to help hold the hitch in place while tightening the fasteners. Leaving the rear rubber hangers on the top while facing them forward was a good tip I saw in other reviews. I also ordered a bike rack that was just as easy to put together. Very satisfied with this company.

Love the fast delivery and video instructions that etrailer provides. I've purchased a half dozen or so hitches over the years. This one took an hour and a half to install by myself. Used a jack as a second set of hands and it was straight forward and not too difficult. Highly recommend.

2018 Mazda CX-5

Great hitch, not too difficult to install. Highly recommend 2 people and a ramp or jack stands to prop up the back. Only negative is that it came scratched in numerous places but I assume that’s due to shipping. Covered the areas in clear coat to hopefully prevent rusting. Overall, would purchase again.

The hitch looks great! Just like the other reviews, an extrat set of hands to hold the hitch into place really helps! Once the exhaust hangers were removed, the installation went very quick. As per instructions/video/other reviewers...remember to put the rubber hangers back into place on the frame mounts BEFORE putting hitch into place. Now I’m just waiting for my bike rack to arrive and I will be ready to roll!

Package arrived safely, contents in good shape and well protected. Hitch was an easy install on the ground by myself with a rolling floor jack, install time was around one hour taking my time. Without a jack, it would be pretty difficult to install alone (I’m a 30 year old man I’m good shape, and I could not have done it without either a jack or a second set of hands). I loved that A: I saved money over the factory Mazda hitch, and B: I did not have to trim the rear bumpers lower valance on my 18’ cx5, like the factory Mazda hitch would have required, and C: the factory Mazda hitch is only a class 1 baby hitch. In summary, I would recommend this hitch to anyone. 5 stars.

2014 Mazda CX-5

Great product! Installation couldn’t have been any easier. Releasing the exhaust system was the hardest part. Written and video instructions were the best I’ve ever seen from any “assembly required” product I’ve ever purchased. Didn’t even have to raise the car (2014 CX-5) of the garage floor.

This hitch was easy to install, looks great, and is perfect for my wife’s 2018 CX-5. No modifications were necessary, only had to loosen the exhaust hangers and move the muffler to install. I would recommend this hitch to anyone who needs to haul bikes, accessories, etc.

Never had a hitch before; watched the 5 minute video on how to install.. the hardest part is absolutely dealing with the rubber vibration isolators that hold up the exhaust on my 2018 CX-5 Grand Touring. Eventually after trying to get a pry bar up and around in there, I found that my forearm strength worked easier on getting them off. Also, use some liquid as lubrication. More is better if you have paper towels to collect drippings. Absolutely recommend two people to lift the Hitch Receiver into place if possible, but you can balance it on your knees if needed. That's what I did.. Just make sure you set the washers and nuts right where you can reach them so you can get the weight off your knees quick. I'll try to get pictures uploaded to this review if I can. Other than me taking my time as this was my first time and making sure I didn't scratch anything, I completed this in 2 hours by myself. Make sure you have a good torque wrench, and a good universal joint for your ratchet. Thanks to etrailer for selling a great product that was easy to install! Absolutely bulletproof and will buy again for next vehicle!

Solid construction, perfect fit and looks . Installation was a breeze with a 2nd set of hands to help hold in place while installing the fasteners. The installation video was also extremely helpful and well done. Primarily expect to use this for bicycle rack/transport; however, we may also use it to tow a trailer at some point. Overall we’re extremely happy with the purchase. etrailer made all aspects of the purchase easy. Everything from information/videos on selecting the right hitch, bike rack and accessories; simple online ordering and fast shipping. I highly recommend!

Product Was good and fit perfectly on my car.Installation is super easy as with instructions and videos. This is my first time installing a hitch so initially I struggled as due to lack of help. After a little research and with the help of a friend Installed in 15 Mins(Research and initials trail not counted).Things to remember. 1)Car ramps will help where we can pick from [hardware store]. 2)Flat head screwdriver and soap water is super good option for removing Exhaust from hangers. 3)Rubber bushes should be on top hooks and facing front side of the car(Not back side to-wards trunk). 4)Remove one facia screw(plastic clip) for easy adjustment which was not demonstrated in the video but advised in the manual. 5)Better to keep the fish wires of the back bolts to avoid pushing them inside the frame.(C-retention rings will help where manufacturer is not providing). 6)Second person will make the job easy. Paint Quality is very very poor which is pealing out as mentioned by others in this forum. Installed my Kuat rack which comes with stabilizer and fits perfect. yet to test on the roads. Pics or not so clear.

It fit pretty nicely on our 2017 Mazda CX5. A body shop guy i knew helped install it. Just had to drop (lower) the exhaust/gas tank assembly by releasing some rubber holding hinges first. Has worked well since. My son; a good configurator with a lot of things, hooked up the wiring kit we purchased. (He works at a parts and service dept for a car dealer). We are smoothly enjoying the trailor ever since!

Great value! My wife and I just purchased mountain bikes and I was initially searching for roof bike racks. I did a quick search on how much to put on a trailer hitch and total cost is under $250 with installation. Obviously a hitch has more perks and I didn't want the risk of damage with a roof rack system. I recommend! Cheers!

2013 Mazda CX-5

I decided to order this after my Mazda dealer quoted me $650 to install a tiny class 1 hitch on my CX-5. I am not handy at all, but figured it was worth the risk and cost savings to try this myself. I watched a YouTube video on the installation process and then bit the bullet and bought this. I'm super happy with my decision. Between the video and the included instructions, I was able to get through the installation easily and the product looks and feels very high quality. Doing it myself saved me a ton of money. My main purpose for installing this was because my kids are riding bikes now and we need to fit 4 on a rack, which I only wanted to do on a hitch rack. In about 90 minutes I'm all set!

Shipping was super fast! Product arrived in good shape. Written instruction in combination with the online video were very clear. I was very happy to have a friend help me with the installation. He was younger and had all the necessary tools. We managed the install without raising the car. Tight, but doable. The hitch seems to be good quality and fit my vehicle cleanly. I am ready to carry a bike rake now.

2020 Mazda CX-5

Simple install on my 2021 CX-5. I left it on the ground which wasn't a problem for the installation. The only challenge was tightening the rear most nuts, there isn't a lot space to get the ratchet in there. An angular socket adapter would have made it a bit easier.

Draw-tite hitch and Curt wire harness are great. Delivery and follow-up from etrailer are excellent. The installation was a 4 hour job by a professional installer. Installation of wiring and connections were hidden from view during the job. I would not recommend this installation to an amateur who does not have a high lift. For the home DIY, this would be an all day, and perhaps longer, process without proper tools and a lift. My Mazda CX_5 Grand Touring did not have the extra trim piece to remove. This made the job a bit easier. All-in-all, I love the products purchased from etrailer. [Thumbs up]

Good product at a good price! Installation was slightly more difficult than I anticipated, but it's mostly because of the vehicle configuration (my previous vehicle was much more spacious underneath). Would recommend a 2nd set of hands for installation. Overall though, the hitch looks good on the vehicle and seems to be holding up well a year later.

Great web site and it is very easy to find all types of accessories associated with my vehicle. Also there are great tutorials on how to install them. Fast shipping too. I installed the hitch and it looks great. There was a little issue with installing the driver side muffler hanger, you need to make sure the the passenger side muffler hanger bracket clears the hitch hole so you can have enough room to install the other side.

  • Comparing Curt and Draw-Tite Hitches for 2019 Mazda CX-5
The Curt # C13315 and the Draw Tite part # 76138 for your 2019 Mazda CX-5 are both really great options that would both work great for you, but if I had to pick one over the other I would go with the Curt as it is a little less visible at the rear of the vehicle than the Draw Tite. The difference between the mounting points on the Draw-Tite # 76138 and the Curt # C13315 and etrailer # e98902 hitches is simply that's just how the manufacturers decided to design the brackets. They all fit the different variants in models (aside from Diesel which you'd need part # DR44FR), and so it really just boils down to those are the places where the companies decided to attached their trailer hitch to. They will be able to take this information and tell you exactly what model you have and anything that was installed at the factory. This Class III hitch will actually fit both the 2016.5 mid-year model and those...

I'd recommend the Draw Tite hitch part # 76138 for your 2018 Mazda CX-5 as it is a confirmed fit, has a 2 inch hitch size, and unlike the Curt equivalent does not require a stabilizer strap when carrying a bike rack.

  • Does Exhaust Need To Be Removed To Install Trailer Hitch On 2016 Maxda CX-5
For the installation of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, part # 76138 the muffler is very easy to remove. You just remove the two fasteners at the rear of the muffler and the 2 fasteners on the exhaust pipe going into the muffler and you can get the muffler out of the way while you install it. As the instructions state, you can lower the exhaust to have easier access, but I recommend doing it like the installers in our shop show.

  • Do You Go by the Trailer Hitch Capacity or Owners Manual Capacity for a 2013 Mazda CX-5
Always follow the vehicle owners manual if it states the towing capacity is rated lower than the hitch. In some cases, a vehicle may have a higher capacity than the hitch and in those cases you would go by the lower hitch capacity. The rule is that you always go by the lowest rated component in the system so for your Mazda CX-5 that would be the vehicle itself.
