Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

I couldn’t be any happier with this purchase. The drawtite hitch is solid and is even hidden well beneath the rear bumper, so that’s a plus. It took the mechanics less than 30 minutes to install it since it was a custom hitch. I’ve always wanted a hitch specifically for carriers and bike racks, now I have one and am very satisfied with my purchase. Thank you Etrailer for all of the research you all do and for the very informative site. It cuts my work in half. Here is a photo of my Mazda with hitch installed and an overdrive sports rack hooked to it.

I am very pleased with this product!!! I have not had any issues, it’s been reliable and still looks like a bought it yesterday. Absolutely no rust and since I do not have a carport or garage, it’s constantly exposed to outdoor conditions in Western NC many love this area, it’s temperate rain forest. Anyway, I do not regret purchasing! Love it! I keep a 3- bike rack carrier hooked up at all times bc I ride a lot! Every other day or so. The bike I own is a radrover, so it weighs about 60lbs plus. Also, I have two regular bicycles for cruising, which are lighter, but regardless, the hitch has proven to be strong and durable. One happy customer.

This hitch was easy to install with the video instructions etrailer provided. I did not have to jack my Mazda CX-5 but the wheels are 19-inch. It was helpful to have someone to help hold the hitch in place while tightening the fasteners. Leaving the rear rubber hangers on the top while facing them forward was a good tip I saw in other reviews. I also ordered a bike rack that was just as easy to put together. Very satisfied with this company.

2021 Mazda CX 5 Installation Review: Overall, the installation was pretty easy and straightforward. The installation video on etrailer was more than enough to install the hitch at home. All you need is an extra pair of hands to hold the hitch in place when bolting. Installation can be done without the use of jack stands. My only complaint(reason for 4 stars) with the product is the ECoat and Powdercoat. It already peeled off on a couple of trim edges

Great trailer hitch! Strong and well crafted. Perfect for our 5 bike rack, and could clearly handle a trailer or other heavy load. Instructional video was clear and comprehensive. And it looks great. Based on this experience, this is a quality company that takes pride in providing quality products. My compliments to the staff.

Works well, does what it’s supposed to. Install was a pain to do on my back trying to balance that awkward and heavy bar while aligning with the bolts and avoiding everything in the way. Would recommend a second set of hands.

Comments
If you do not have an extra person to help lift up the hitch while you are threading hardware, I have heard of people using a jack and using ratchet straps to keep one end of the hitch up.

Shipping was fast, install was a breeze. My wife helped me to lift into place but aside from that the videos were spot on on how to install it onto my 2014 cx5. We plan on using this for our camping trips. Next purchase will be a cargo carrier.

The hitch is quite well designed. You can only see the receiver from the back and the whole set up is well integrated into the vehicle and it seems very strong. This is definitely a two-person job. At least one person must have very strong hands to remove the muffler from the hanger. Remove the muffler side of the hanger. I used a spray lubricant and channel locks to take off the muffler from the hanger. I did not need to remove the electrical wire shown in the video. Took us about two hours. Would probably take us 40 minutes to do it again. If you want a hitch, this is the one to get.

- 76138
by:

I was able to install the hitch by myself. Took me about 1 hour and the most difficult part was the muffler rubber attachment. The wires included are a very clever solution getting those screws inside the car frame!! Overall I had fun installing it and it’s a solid hitch. I’m in my mid 40’s and fairly fit. I can see this being not so easy for folks not very handy and in bad shape but you can get it installed by a shop for 50$ If that’s a problem. Shipping was incredibly fast and got it in 3 days. 100% recommended

This is a great quality product with excellent installation support that I have come to expect from etrailer! My hitch receiver came with all hardware and ingenious "fish wires" to install this unit making it a simple procedure. For a person like me doing this in my driveway I can say that having an assistant, while not necessary, would make this install much easier. Other suggestions to future installers is that the latest etrailer video for this Draw Tite is a must watch. Additional suggestions are: leave all 4 rubber muffler hangers on the top frame hanger posts, twist the rearward pair to point to the front of the car before mounting the unit and have a deep and shallow (standard depth) 19mm or 3/4 inch socket for your torque wrench since room is limited.

The hitch was a perfect fit on my Mazda CX-5. No drilling or modifying my car’s trim panel needed. I appreciate the provided fish wires and detailed instructions. Installation took me 30 minutes. The hitch receiver sits just below the rear bumper in the ideal position.

Product Was good and fit perfectly on my car.Installation is super easy as with instructions and videos. This is my first time installing a hitch so initially I struggled as due to lack of help. After a little research and with the help of a friend Installed in 15 Mins(Research and initials trail not counted).Things to remember. 1)Car ramps will help where we can pick from [hardware store]. 2)Flat head screwdriver and soap water is super good option for removing Exhaust from hangers. 3)Rubber bushes should be on top hooks and facing front side of the car(Not back side to-wards trunk). 4)Remove one facia screw(plastic clip) for easy adjustment which was not demonstrated in the video but advised in the manual. 5)Better to keep the fish wires of the back bolts to avoid pushing them inside the frame.(C-retention rings will help where manufacturer is not providing). 6)Second person will make the job easy. Paint Quality is very very poor which is pealing out as mentioned by others in this forum. Installed my Kuat rack which comes with stabilizer and fits perfect. yet to test on the roads. Pics or not so clear.

Simple install on my 2021 CX-5. I left it on the ground which wasn't a problem for the installation. The only challenge was tightening the rear most nuts, there isn't a lot space to get the ratchet in there. An angular socket adapter would have made it a bit easier.

Love the fast delivery and video instructions that etrailer provides. I've purchased a half dozen or so hitches over the years. This one took an hour and a half to install by myself. Used a jack as a second set of hands and it was straight forward and not too difficult. Highly recommend.

The installation was as easy as the video showed and it worked like a charm. I've used the hitch to haul a 3000 pound trailer into the mountains and there was no problem with the connection.

Installation on my 2019 CX-5 GT Reserve was a breeze! (installed in an hour). To install I only had to remove the very small, lower trim piece on the bumper (will need trimmed if you want to reinstall the lower trim piece, but the piece really isn't needed so I didn't bother). I really like this hitch because is appears to be factory - once installed, the only part you see is the square hitch post hole. The frame of the hitch is hidden under the back of the vehicle. (I have seen others where the hitch post hole is aligned with the hitch frame, so it hangs much lower and looks terrible.). I installed this hitch a year ago. I attach a small trailer to the hitch approx 2 times per month. No issues at all with it. Finish on it is holding up well. Very well made.

It has been a year and product still works as designed. Note I only use a trailer approximately once per month.

The hitch looks great! Just like the other reviews, an extrat set of hands to hold the hitch into place really helps! Once the exhaust hangers were removed, the installation went very quick. As per instructions/video/other reviewers...remember to put the rubber hangers back into place on the frame mounts BEFORE putting hitch into place. Now I’m just waiting for my bike rack to arrive and I will be ready to roll!

Very happy with the Drawtite class III , the steel looks thicker than others in mounting area , There is lots steel attaching the receiver to the crossbar (not just two plates on the sides that looks flimsy). Your great video gave me the confidence to do it myself, good tip to leave muffler rubbers on which i held open a little with a small screwdriver to get lube inside . Cam lock strap worked good, awesome wife helped hold one end up when i had a bolt in I grabbed the car jack to hold it up , a swivel on the socket helps because u can’t get extension straight on the nut on back bolts . Used jack again to raise muffler , more lube on rubbers for reassembly . The toughest part was getting nuts started as bolts would lift up, but it went well .Kuat rack for e-bikes arrives soon !

This hitch is sturdy and was super easy to install. The one thing that really should be changed about the directions is not to completely remove the clips after lowering the tail pipe, otherwise, you have to drop it off a second time when you try to put them back on. Otherwise it's great. Also, I placed my order after 10 pm on a Tuesday and the items where on my porch when I got home Thursday afternoon. I mean these were large, heavy items to have in under 48 hours from placing the order. I was amazed!

Great hitch, not too difficult to install. Highly recommend 2 people and a ramp or jack stands to prop up the back. Only negative is that it came scratched in numerous places but I assume that’s due to shipping. Covered the areas in clear coat to hopefully prevent rusting. Overall, would purchase again.

  • Comparing Curt and Draw-Tite Hitches for 2019 Mazda CX-5
The Curt # C13315 and the Draw Tite part # 76138 for your 2019 Mazda CX-5 are both really great options that would both work great for you, but if I had to pick one over the other I would go with the Curt as it is a little less visible at the rear of the vehicle than the Draw Tite. The difference between the mounting points on the Draw-Tite # 76138 and the Curt # C13315 and etrailer # e98902 hitches is simply that's just how the manufacturers decided to design the brackets. For example Draw-Tite hitch # 76138 fits both. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip,...

  • 2 inch Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2016.5 Mazda CX-5
For your 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 the best 2 inch trailer hitch solution is the Draw Tite part # 76138. Reason being it has the best towing capacities and unlike the Curt trailer hitch it does not require a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring
You're smart to want the flexibility of a 2 inch hitch receiver; that will offer you many more options in terms of accessories than the smaller 1-1/4 inch receiver. With that in mind, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 76138 for your 2017 Mazda CX-5, which is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver. There are no drawbacks to installing this hitch over its Class II counterpart, the Draw-Tite # 36601, as the Class III offers the flexibility you mentioned and is actually three pounds lighter...

  • Comparing Draw-Tite and Curt Trailer Hitch for 2018 Mazda CX-5
The biggest difference between the Draw-Tite # 76138 trailer hitch and the Curt # C13315 trailer hitch that fit your 2018 Mazda CX-5 is the Draw-Tite has a higher tongue weight (675 lbs) and towing (4,500 lbs) capacity than the Curt (600 lbs tongue weight, 4,000 lbs towing). While you should never exceed the towing capacity outlined in your '18 Mazda CX-5's owner's manual I do recommend going the Draw-Tite # 76138 because those capacities speak to its strength and durability. This hitch...

  • I Have Rust and Corrosion on my 4 Year Old Trailer Hitch on my 2016 Mazda CX-5
It looks like you installed the Draw-Tite Class III trailer hitch, part # 76138, on your 2016 Mazda CX5 back in 2017. This trailer hitch has a towing capacity of 4,500 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 675 lbs, but keep in mind, you will be limited by your vehicle's capacities which are 2,000 lbs towing and 200 lbs tongue weight. To solve the rust and corrosion issue, the best route to take is to use a wire brush and remove as much rust and corrosion as you can. If it appears to be...

  • Do the Exhaust Hangers on a 2019 Mazda CX-5 Need to Be Removed for the Draw-Tite Hitch 76138
In order to install the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76138 on your 2019 Mazda CX-5 you will need to lower the exhaust by removing the metal exhaust hanger studs from the rubber isolators. This can be done with the isolators left on the muffler side or on the vehicle side, it does not matter which you choose but I find it easier to leave them on the muffler side. In order to remove them you will need to spray a bit of lubricant inside the rubber and then you can use...

  • How Long Does Install of Hitch and Wiring for 2020 Mazda CX-5 Take
On average the hitches that fit your 2020 Mazda CX-5 like the Draw Tite part # 76138 take about 50 minutes according to the manufacturer for an average installer. The wiring kit like the # 118746 would take about the same as well. I attached install videos for both of these for you to check out as well.
