Will Hitch for 2024 Nissan Rogue Interfere With Hands Free Tailgate and Backup Sensors

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/30/2025

Question:

I have a 2024 nissan rogue sl with a power liftgate. I was hoping you could recommend a 2inch hitch receiver that will not interfere with the power liftgate or the backup sensors. The liftgate is extremely sensitive in the least opportune times and do not want to risk it opening when I have a bike rack on it. A bike rack will be the main use for the hitch.

Hey Patti! Every available hitch for your 2024 Nissan Rogue has the potential to limit or interfere with those sensors. Sensor placement isn't always exact from vehicle to vehicle which is why we can't say for sure if it will or won't.

Typically the hands free liftgate sensor has limited functionality and you have to put your foot on either side of the receiver to activate it. If anything, I would expect a hitch like # e93ZR to actually help prevent it from opening with the bike rack on there.

The backup sensors will be hit or miss and it may actually result in the brakes engaging when you backup. There might be a way to disable this or move the sensors but you would have to check with Nissan to see if it is possible. We have had a lot of customers install a hitch without this issue but again, I can't say for sure that will be the case.

If you want to use a hitch mounted bike rack there is no way around the issue. The other option would be to use a trunk mount bike rack like # Y02634 or add a roof rack and use something like # TH598004 to mount your bikes. If you have any other questions feel free to reply below!

Hey Patti, did you decide to go with a hitch receiver or explore the trunk or roof bike rack options? I'm curious to know what worked best for you, as it could help others with similar concerns about the liftgate and sensors.
