Can Trailer Hitch Be Installed On 2025 Nissan Rogue With Rear Hatch Kick Sensor?

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 08/15/2025

Question:

I have a 2025 Rogue Rock Creek Edition and worked it out at purchase that the dealer would order and install a trailer hitch for me. Today they called and said bc my Rogue has a rear hatch kickplate, it cannot have a trailer hitch installed. I never use this feature and even told them Im fine if the install prevents me from ever using it-they are still telling me a hitch cannot be installed. So, is this the right information? Or are they trying to skip out on honoring what they promised at sale?

Hello Noah, thanks for reaching out. You can absolutely still install a trailer hitch on a 2025 Nissan Rogue with the rear kick sensor. The problem is the hitch will limit the functionality of the sensor. In most cases the kick sensor will still work but the hitch receiver blocks the area right beneath, so you have to wave your foot on either side of the sensor to activate it.

It could be the dealership doesn't want to install the hitch because they cannot guarantee the sensor will still function. That or they are giving you the run around and they don't want to stand behind their promises. You never know with some of these dealerships which is really a shame. I had a similar experience with Ford several years back where the dealership basically sold us a lemon and lied to us about honoring their warranty. I will never buy another Ford after that lol.

Take a look at the video I linked below. It shows our etrailer Class 3 Hitch # e93ZR being installed on a 2025 Rogue. Maybe you could show this video to your installer to show them how its done. It is a very simple bolt-on install so as long as you are good with potentially losing that sensor function I see no reason why they couldn't install a hitch for you.

Hey if all else fails you can always bring your car to us here in Wentzville, Mo. We will be happy to install that for you. We even offer free installs for new vehicles.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

Hey Noah, did you get a chance to show the video to your dealer, and were they able to install the hitch for you? I'm asking because your experience could help others facing similar issues with their Rogue.
