Hi Scott; for your 2023 Ford Escape I recommend the etrailer # e89YR. This is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver and a bolt-on installation. It has a concealed cross tube for a nice clean look and better clearance. It also features a matte black powder coat finish which helps hide dirt and scratches.
Do you plan on towing? If you do, you will also need wiring and a ball mount. For wiring you can use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C55VV. If your vehicle has the tow package port then you can use the Curt # C59ZV instead. Both will provide you with a 4-way to power your trailer's lights. For a ball mount, check out the etrailer # e67DR.
