Replacement Brakes, Bearings, Seals, and Races for a Dexter 9,000 lbs Axle

Updated 10/23/2025 | Published 04/07/2025

Question:

I have a set of 9000 lb dual wheel tandem axles under my gooseneck trailer. They are oil bath Dexter axles. Model number:9000. Serial number: 12108947124. Would these brakes be correct for these axles? I’m looking for complete self adjusting brake kits, bearings and oil seals as well. Thanks in advance! This trailer is a 1990 model. I’m unsure of its history but it is missing the brake shoes and I want to go through both axles to make it all right and reliable.

Hey Brandon, thanks for the information. The Electric Trailer Brake Kit w/ Dust Shields item # AKEBRK-10 are exactly what you need. These self adjusting electric brakes are rated for 9,000 lbs and 10,000 lbs axles. You will need one set per axle.

I recommended replacing your mounting bolts with the Mounting Bolts and Hardware for 12-1/4" Brake Assemblies item # BRKH122510. This will replace one axle's brake mounting bolts and hardware.

For replacement bearings and seals there is not a kit that has all of the bearings and seals but you can purchase them all separately as follows:

Inner Bearing item # 387A
Inner Race item # 382A
Outer Bearing item # 25580
Outer Race item # 25520
Oil Seal item # 10-51
And Oil Cap Kit item # RG04-270

Hey Brandon, how did the new electric brake kits and hardware work out on your gooseneck trailer? Were the bearings and seals a good match for your Dexter axles? Your update could make it easier for the next person working on a similar setup.

@JerredH they fit great. Excellent quality parts. Installion was made fast and easy since they were all pre assembled. The only thing that would’ve made it better is if the the oil seal was included with the brake kit.
