Will Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Brackets Sit Low Enough for Generator Box Door Clearance
Question:
I’m thinking of buying this hitch for my ATC trailer. My trailer has a generator box on the front of the trailer. The bottom of the door on the generator box is 1 7/8” off the top of the frame of the trailer. Is there a measurement for the brackets that mount to the trailer frame on how high the stick up past the top of the frame tube? If the brackets stick up too hight I won’t be able to open the doors.

Hey Scott, thanks for reaching out!
I don't have the exact height of that bracket, but the bolt from the Equal-i-zer # EQ64FR that sits on top of the trailer frame is 5/8" in and of itself so you're looking at around 1-1/4" at the very minimum, and that's if you're able to get enough tension with the system set at that lowest setting. A lot of times the brackets need to be brought up some so the bars have enough tension and there isn't a way to figure this out pre-owning it - so there unfortunately isn't a way for me to answer this for you with absolute certainty.
What I recommend doing is going with the Reese Strait-Line, like the 12K # RP66084, and adding a 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # 19286 and the Chain Hangers # RP58305 because they will install on the sides of your frame and won't interfere with your box door.
Let me know the GVWR of your trailer and I'll be happy to recommend a different Strait-Line that is better designed if the 12K model doesn't work.

My trailer is a 28’ enclosed car hauler, the gvw is 13200# and my truck takes a 2 1/2” receiver.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the generator box is 30” back from the center of the ball. That’s why I’m haven’t a hard time finding a weight distribution hitch for my trailer. The frame is 8” tall and has the center tube also.
