Parts Needed to Use a Brake Controller While Charging Battery on a Teardrop Trailer

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 01/27/2025

Question:

For a 2022 or 2025 Toyota Highlander still deciding to have 7-pin functionality to operate the electric brakes and to recharge a house battery on a tear RV, what is the best package to use to use? I am told the Highlander comes pre-wired with a 4-pin setup. I plan to use your: 1 Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller - 7-Way Plug-in w/ Bluetooth App - Up to 2 Axles - Proportional, and 2 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 12 Gauge Wires [Part Number: ETBC7L]. I believe I will also need to run a hot lineinch to power the assembly. Is this build correct?

You've done your research John, kudos to you! Yes that is all you're going to need. For the charge line kit, if you don't already have something put together the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 is a great option that includes everything you'll need.

If there is anything else you need help with, feel free to leave a comment and let me know!

Hey John, how did your setup go with the Curt Echo and the 7-way upgrade kit on your Highlander? Did the Roadmaster charge line kit give you the power you needed for the house battery? Your update could make it easier for others planning a similar build.
