Recommended Flat Towing Parts for a 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid w/ Electric Brake Assist

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/10/2024

Question:

I am researching a flat tow system for my 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid. I definately want a permanently installed supplemental braking system and am comparing the Invisibrake vs the Stay-in-Play Duo. I like the SNP better because it can be installed under the hood rather than on the floor behind drivers seat and I like the wireless brake monitor. However, I have read about issues on the SNP of too hard braking, causing brake lock up with the Mavericks active electric boosted brakes. Some have installed a pressure regulator and bleed valve to reduce the braking pressure. It is said that the piston applies the full 60 psi without the regulator so the SNP is nor truely proportional. Interested in your thoughts.

Hey Les! There's a note in red in the vacuum connection section of installation instructions on the Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO item # DM86VR that addresses your concerns. It states the following:

"If you have an electric brake assist and your vehicle requires the battery to be disconnected, leave the vacuum line and check valve open to atmosphere. If you have electric brake assist and the battery remains connected, remove the check valve, and turn it around or block off the vacuum check valve."

You'll want to check your Maverick's owner's manual to determine if your battery needs to be disconnected and then either leave the vacuum line and check valve open to atmosphere if it needs to be disconnected or remove the check valve and turn it around or block off the vacuum check valve if your battery is staying connected. You can just block off the check valve with some tape to make things easier if that's the route you have to take.

Here are the rest of the parts you'll need to flat tow your 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid:

Tow Bar and Safety Chains - Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar item # RM-520 and item # RM-643

Base Plate Kit - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms item # RM97RR

Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267

Charge Line - Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles item # RM-156-25

High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.

Hey Les, how did things go with the Stay-IN-Play Duo setup on your Maverick Hybrid? Did the vacuum line adjustment solve your concern about the electric brake assist? Your update could make it easier for others working through the same flat tow setup.
