Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer. Today we're gonna take a look at this Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Inline Air Pressure Regulator. Now, this inline air pressure regulator is for select Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO supplemental braking installations. This is gonna let you or help you fine tune your coach air supply so that the towed vehicle brakes smoothly and without excessive force. It is commonly used on the Ford Maverick flat tow setups where added pressure control improves your braking performance.

It is useful in other applications where adjusting the coach air pressure leads to a more balanced, predictable brake feel. If you notice at the top here, it has this knob. It's a lift and turn adjustment knob. This will let you raise or lower the pressure and then lock it securely in place. So you see just by lifting it up, and you'll be able to turn it higher or lower.

Once you find the right spot, push it down, it locks it in place. This unit is gonna install about 10 to 12 inches from the main operating unit using your standard Stay-IN-Play DUO airline connections. If you are flat towing a Ford Maverick with the Demco Stay In Play, you need an air pressure regulator. Without a regulator, the Maverick will overbrake with too much pressure. I installed the regulator in my Maverick and hooked the Maverick up to my Ram pick up to test out the Stay In Play braking system. The regulator was factory set. I sat in the Maverick as my brother in law drove the Ram. Upon the first test brake, the Maverick did all the braking stopping both vehicles. Factory setting were very high.
We continued the braking test, each time turning the regulator down after each brake test. After the 7th brake test, I had the regulator at a setting which applied the brakes on the Maverick, but not too strong that it was also trying to stop the Ram. This is critical. If you do not have a regulator, you will wear the brakes out on the Maverick and possibly destroy your tires.
The Demco regulator does not have a pressure gauge, so I do not actually know what the end result psi is. This regulator works well and does the job. I gave it a four star, only because it does not have a gauge. Of note, you can purchase an adjustable regulator with a pressure gauge from most car part shops or off Amazon if you would prefer having a gauge.

Item was on back order, but arrived 1week before estimated delivery. Installed in less than 10 minutes, instructions were fairly clear, the adjustment of press process was lacking. Suggested someone ride in toad to observe brake. That my be a good final check, but turning on the stay-in-play and pulling out the emergency brake disconnect stem, you can obverse the brake pedal while the vehicle is stationary to get a feel for there the pressure is. Was received from closed, so no brake assist just follow the suggested adjustment.

You can still install one to lessen the braking pressure if it seems too harsh, but it isn't a requirement for the braking system to operate on that vehicle.
