Hitch for 2014 Subaru Impreza STi Hatchback That Won't Reduce Ground Clearance

Updated 10/29/2024 | Published 10/26/2024

Question:

Hi Im looking for a hitch similar to this one: 306-X7211 which would fit on a 2014 STi hatchback. I understand the STi doesnt have a knockout panel but Im fine to cut a hole in the bumper. Just looking for an equivalent 2 hitch that doesnt kill your ground clearance. Thanks!

Hi Chris; they don't make one exactly like the 306-X7211 for your 2014 STi hatchback but you can use the EcoHitch # 306-X7261. The receiver will be hanging down when you're using the hitch, which really can't be helped. However, when you don't need the hitch you can pull off the receiver so you have a nice clean look and your original ground clearance at the rear.

Hi Robin, I plan on having a bike rack essentially permanently on the hitch and I don't want the hanging down one since it kills ground clearance. Do those hitches have identical mounting points? I think the Impreza chassis is identical to the WRX/STI so the bolt points should match up. The cross bar in the one you linked looks a bit narrower. Perhaps there's an issue with the exhaust hangers? Again if this fits but needs a hole in the bumper I'm happy to make one. Thanks, Chris

@ChrisC you would have to ask EcoHitch if the mounting points are the same. I don't know what else may be involved in the design to get it to fit with the WRX/STi vs the regular Impreza. I imagine working around the exhaust is part of it, but there could be other design differences that would keep you from simply installing the hitch and adding a hole in the bumper. EcoHItch likely has that information. If there is a lot more to it, I would say take the # E-9 to a local fabricator and have them fashion a custom hitch that will do what you want.
