Is A Brake Controller Needed With The Stealth Hitches Towing Harness To Activate Trailer Brakes

Hello, I have a 2021 BMW X5 M50i and looking for a hitch to haul a trailer. Ill be purchasing the Stealth hitch and a passive wiring harness. Do you know if i use the passive wiring harness will it apply a brake signal to my trailer? Or do I need to purchase a brake controller?

Hi Gabriel,
The Stealth Hitches Trailer Wiring Kit # SH58VR would still require a brake controller in order to activate the brakes on the trailer. You could go with the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 along with circuit breaker # 9506P and some 10 gauge wire # 10-1-1 to run between the 7-way and brake controller and from the brake controller to the battery.

Hey Gabriel, how did things go with the Stealth hitch and wiring setup on your X5? Did you end up using the Prodigy P2 brake controller or try another option? Your update could make it easier for others setting up a similar trailer connection.
