Can Curt Echo Brake Controller be Used With Stealth Hitches Hitch 7-Way
Updated 06/11/2024 | Published 06/03/2024 >
Question:
I bought a Stealth hitch for my Volvo V90 Cross Country a few years ago and a Curt wireless brake controller. Does the Curt wireless brake controller need to be fixed to the tow vehicle or can it be mounted on the trailer? The Stealth hitch 7-pin connector points down towards the ground which will cause the controller tube to point downward. Due to its length, Im afraid it will hit the ground or drag the trailer cable. Can I use a short extension with a 90-degree elbow off the vehicles 7-pin and then attach the controller tube in-line? Does the controller tube need to be fixed relative to the vehicle somehow with a bracket or can I mount it to the trailer frame instead? Thanks!

Hi Mike,
You can use the Curt Echo Brake # C51180 with the Stealth Hitches 7-way. The lid on the 7-way will attach to the tab of the Echo to keep it secured. There isn't a short extension with a 90-degree elbow that we offer though you can use one if you find it. The controller does not need to be fixed relative to the vehicle, but does need to be on the vehicle as it uses its deceleration to apply the brakes, and it'll take longer to apply the brakes if it is away from the tow vehicle.

Thanks! Great reply. That explains why I wasn't getting very good trailer braking. I found a 90 degree 1 foot extension and zip-tied the controller to the trailer frame to keep it from dangling. I have since mounted a simple Curt bracket under the bumper and attached the 90-degree elbow extension there.
