Can I Use A Weight Distribution System With A 2024 Tesla Model Y With Unibody Design
Updated 07/29/2024 | Published 07/26/2024 >
Question:
Dear eTrailer Team, Im buying a new 2023 Airstream Bambi. I understand that the 2024 Tesla Model Y has a unibody design that limits the weight distribution systems that I can consider. What brands/models should I consider to safely tow the Bambi? Additionally, do you have a recommendation for a trailer ball hitch mount too? Thanks!

Hello Terry, thanks for reaching out. We do offer a trailer hitch for the 2024 Tesla Model Y, the EcoHitch # EH39FR. This is a class 3 hitch so it has a 2" receiver and a 3,500 lb max towing capacity.
As far as weight distribution, you CANNOT safely use a weight distribution system with this vehicle. Unibody vehicles cannot handle the stress caused by a weight distribution system. Also, the EcoHitch I mentioned cannot be used with a weight distribution system. As long as your Airstream Bambi is under 3,500 lbs you can still tow it, but you will have to do so without weight distribution. The only way to use a weight distribution hitch with your Airstream would be to get a more stout vehicle that is actually intended to be used for towing.

Thanks for the response. I have the OEM hitch already installed. Can you recommend a trailer hitch ball mount? Thanks!
