Will the Power Mountain Tallboy Off-Road Bottle Jack 27-1/16" Lift be Suitable for My 5th Wheel?

Question:

Re: Power Mountain 12 ton bottle jack, item PM94FR. I want to use it for my fifth wheel camper, but the frame of my camper sits 25 off the ground. And it is only supposed to be lifted by using the frame. Will this jack give me enough height to lift the camper? Thank you.

Hello Joe,

Thank you for reaching out!

The Power Mountain Tallboy Off-Road Bottle Jack - 11-5/16" to 27-1/16" Lift - 12 Tons # PM94FR does have the capacity you’d need, but since your fifth wheel’s frame sits about 25" off the ground, it would only leave you with just over 2" of additional lift once the jack makes contact. In most cases, that’s not quite enough extra travel to fully lift the trailer and get the tire off the ground when lifting by the frame, especially considering suspension droop.

A better fit for your setup would be the Power Mountain Tallboy Off-Road Bottle Jack - 8-1/2" to 37-3/4" Lift - 6 Tons # PM34FR. Even though it has a lower weight capacity rating, 6 tons (12,000 lbs) is still more than sufficient for lifting one side of a fifth wheel during a tire change. The big advantage is the much taller maximum lift height of 37-3/4", which gives you plenty of usable lift to safely raise the trailer by the frame and get the wheel clear of the ground.

What trip are you looking most forward to this year in your 5th wheel? Or better yet, what has been your greatest adventure of all time, where did you go, what did you see? I have learned that our Neighbors (customers) have seen the coolest parts of the US!

When i need extra lift, I put 12" x 2" wooden blocks of wood under it. Be very CAREFULL on how many blocks you use for tiping over. Make sure ground is level to help from tipping over. "SAFTY FIRST".
