Can I Use a 6-Ton Jack to Change the Tire on a 16,000 lbs Motorhome?

Updated 02/07/2026 | Published 02/02/2026

Question:

I see people with lighter vehicles using the tall boy jack, what are your thoughts for a 16000 lb motorhome ? It’s toughest job would be to lift a flat tire off the ground from the axle,, wouldn’t think lifting a rear dual tire setup would be too heavy, thoughts?

Hey George. The Power Mountain Tallboy Off-Road Bottle Jack item # PM34FR is only rated for 6-tons but it's not like you're raising up the entire motorhome. Most of the weight is going to be on the back though and since it is a dually, I recommend going up to the 12-ton rated Power Mountain item # PM94FR. The cost increase will give you some peace of mind knowing the jack isn't going to fail on the side of the road when you need it the most.

These jacks are designed for lifted or heavy duty vehicles. They include a oversized base plate designed to prevent sinking into soft uneven ground or gravel surfaces. The jacks are made of a solid steel construction with a corrosion-resistant black powder-coated finish.

I have not used the jack as of yet. I have bought it for insurance. I’ve seen all the videos and it seems to be very effective. Good luck and I hope you never need to find out how effective it is.

I like this jack for the safety and stability that it offers. The attachments that extend its heights really make it a universal jack for different situations that can arise. I feel more comfortable having this jack than other “traditional “ jacks. I do recommend this product.

I have used it twice both times on taller trailers with the U-shaped attachment and one extension. Works great. love the large base on the jack. I do need to figure something out about the storage; it gets wet and has already started to show rust. But that my bad. Worth the money
