Recommendation to Replace Brakes and Hub/Drum on a 1976 Apache Royal Camper

Updated 07/02/2024 | Published 06/24/2024

Question:

I have a 1976 Apache Royal camper that needs a new electric brake magnet. I have not been successful in finding a replacement. Looking for guidance on what alternative solutions might be available. The current brakes are the originals- Fayette 7 1/4 x 1 1/2 60250178-RH and 60250179-LH. The magnet number is 69740122. I would appreciate any advice you could offer. Thanks in advance.

Hey Shawn, thanks for reaching out!

Industry standards with trailer parts didn't start to become a thing until about the 1990's which is why you're having such a hard time finding replacement parts.

The best solution would be to have a welder cut off and replace your spindles with the BTR E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Brake Flange # TRU27FR and then you can replace the brakes with part # AKEBRK-2 and the hub/drum with part # 8-173-16UC3-EZ.

I know it's not ideal but the only alternative is to replace the entire axle assembly.
