Replacement for a SF-30F Suburban Furnace

Updated 09/03/2025 | Published 06/29/2025

Question:

We have a 92 cobra fifth wheel, with a suburban furnace sf30f. The furnace is not igniting anymore. I am thinking of replacing the unit with a newer model, technology. Would this be a good replacement? Or would another unit be a better alternative? The measurements of the suburban unit are 20.25” x 17.75” x 7.6”. Installed under the jack knife sofa. It looks like this unit is the closest replacement so far. Though, I have not figured out a 90 degree propane fitting yet .

Hey Carl, thanks for the information! The Fogatti Quiet LP Gas RV Furnace item # FG55FR would be a great replacement option for your SF-30F Suburban furnace. It measures 18" deep x 8" tall x 22" wide so it's pretty close size wise. I took a look at the installation instructions for your furnace and the ventilation set up is almost identical.

The Fogatti item # FG55FR is a 35,000 BTU furnace. It has four adjustable power levels and three heating modes.

I do not have a 90° 5/8" UNF male flare connection. Did your Suburban furnace come with the trailer originally?

Hey Carl, did you decide to go with the Fogatti furnace as a replacement for your Suburban unit? I'm asking because your experience could help others who are considering a similar upgrade.

@JerredH Hi Jerred, “Etrailer” has been my go to source for repairing and upgrading our 30 year old fifth wheel trailer! What I have found out about the Fogatti furnace. Fogatti states that it has a 5/8” flare fitting. They measured the OD of the threads, which is a 3/8” tube flare fitting. With what I have read, this furnace seems to be my best option. The customer can adjust the btu rating, it adjusts the fan speed for max heating and automatically slows the fan for sleeping, quieter!
