The Replacement RF Controller for Blue Ox Patriot II or Patriot 3 Flat Tow Brake System # BLU66CR is powered by a 12V cigarette outlet, and uses RF (radio frequency) to transmit the brake signal to the unit.
As for use with a 2014 Ford C-Max, the Blue Ox Patriot Portable Flat Tow Brake System # BLU37TR will work great. You're also going to need the 12 Volt Outlet Kit, 20 amps # RM-9332 if you don't have one already.
For the rest of the setup, if you're interested, you're also going to need a base plate kit # BX2639, a set of tow bars # e47ZR, and a wiring harness # RM-15267.
