Is it Normal For Air Brake Pressure To Drop When Releasing Parking Brake After Air Force One Install

Updated 06/17/2024 | Published 06/07/2024

Question:

I had a local dealer install the Demco Air Force One on our Coachmen Sportscoach 402TS and our 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When I release the parking brake on the motorhome, I lose a lot of air pressure. is this normal?

What you are experiencing is likely from the pressurized air going to the Air Force One # DM26VR from your Sportscoach. Since the air going to your 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee is only sent with the brake pedal being pressed and not the parking brake this would explain why you get a quick drop in the air pressure on your brake system.

Hi Bud, Just to define the problem: When I stop and put the Parking Brake on, a lot of air is discharged for about 8-10 seconds. When I release the Parking Brake, my Secondary Air pressure gauge starts at about 80% (normal running) and within 2-3 seconds drops to about 50% (too low of air pressure to move). Seems like the air bag suspension is low and will bottom out easily until the air pressure gets back up to 80%. If I sit in neutral and run the engine at about 1,500 rpm, the air pressure will come back up to normal in about 10 seconds. Is this normal or do you think something is incorrectly installed? If installed incorrectly, what do you think it may be and where do I start looking. Thank you for your help

@Terry That does sound like an excessive amount of air loss if the suspension is dropping that much. I would start by looking at the instructions linked near the bottom of this page and verifying the correct hoses are tied into on your chassis.
