Video Transcript for Mount: Yakima HighRoad Roof Bike Rack on a 2019 Nissan Sentra

Hey everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer, and today, we're taking a look at how the Yakima HighRoad Roof Mounted Bike Rack fits on the 2019 Nissan Sentra. So for your Nissan Sentra, if you want to also go riding, you have limited options for getting a bike onto your car. Now, you can get a hitch receiver and then use hitch mounted bike racks, I highly recommend that option, but if you don't have a hitch, you're then stuck to either a trunk mounted bike rack or a roof mounted bike rack. In that case, I do recommend getting a roof mounted bike rack just because it's not that big of a hassle and it's safe and secure up top. So for roof mounted bike racks, there's usually two options, one is gonna be a fork mounted where you have to take your front wheel off, the other is wheel mount where you can keep your bike as is, just pop it on there. So this has a very interesting way of holding onto your bike, you have that front hold up there, then, you make your adjustments with this back one.

Everything's pretty secure, just make sure you have a roof rack, we have the SeaSucker Monkey bars as our base. I personally recommend this for your road bikes, we can also use this with your other bikes. This is entirely wheel mounted, so there's no contact with the frame, that's why your carbon fiber frame bike's perfectly fine. This can also fit for your mountain bikes or your larger bikes. You have a maximum weight capacity of 45 pounds, and your maximum tire width can be up to four inch wide tires.

To take the bike off, I actually start at the straps. Press the stop, press this lever that disengages the strap, so then you can lift this up and out the way. You can actually slide this, there we go, so it doesn't get caught up in your spokes. See how that cradle slides back and forth That's because this can fit a different wheel bases. Maximum wheel base will be up to 48 inches.

Then, to take the bike off, you're gonna have to loosen your front wheel. So make sure to hold onto your frame or hold onto your bike as you loosen this knob. This then allows your bike rack to release that front wheel, keep going until you have more space. Now, once you push this all the way down, you should then have enough clearance to safely grab your bike off your roof. Roof mounted bike racks are actually okay with a Sentra, because the Sentra is closer to the ground compared to your taller SUVs, but also, in case you can't reach it since wheel mount will give you a little extra height and clearance, we have some step stool options for you.

If you want, you can get one portable to keep inside your trunk. And if you're not planning on taking your bike around, this also folds down to be more compact and streamlined. You can can also see how it matches the front of the rack, so it's a nice sleek look. Those mounts also hide the straps, so when those mounts are up and out of the way, you can see here how I have it in the lock position now, you just slide that out, and then it's in the open position. It just clips into, creates that tension. So if we bring this down, you can see how it's a thin strap, it does have security features on the inside, this just wraps around your crossbar and then holds everything in place. So here's some quick measurements for your Sentra. For height, it depends on what roof rack you have, for example, with our SeaSuckers here, 10 inches is the top of the bike rack, so very streamlined when it's in the down position. As for if you can put other things on your roof, yes for sure, does depend on the length of your crossbar if you want other accessories on the other side or even more bike racks. So my personal thoughts on the Yakima HighRoad system is I do like how you have that knob that just secures that front wheel. That way, you can kinda get your bike situated up against that front clamp as you get the back clamp up in place. Now, the downsides to this is you are gonna need a little bit extra height to get that up there as compared to a fork mount bike rack, we can kinda clip in there and then do what you need to do. So, other than that, solid bike rack, definitely something worth considering. depending on the size of your bikes. Hopefully, this video helped you out to see if this is the right fit for you. This right here was a look at the Yakima HighRoad Roof Mounted Bike Rack on the 2019 Nissan Sentra..

Easiest Yakima mounting system ever. Thank you Yakima for finally engineering this item to go on and off quickly and securely.

by:

Fast shipping and great product looks fantastic on my 2021 hrv

by:

These are great. Just make sure you are holding your bike in one hand until the V is clamped sufficiently with the other. Don't want the bike to fall on your roof.

by:

It took only two days from order to delivery. And it only took me 20 minutes to unbox and install the rack on the roof of my 2020 Subaru Outback. Installation is simple and intuitive.

eTrailer is super responsive and a reliable source of car/trailer related products. My experience with them has always been great.

Super sturdy wheel on bike rack. I enjoyed it so much I ended up buying another shortly after because it was so easy to install and uninstall if I were to go biking with my siblings.

Best rack for roof racks

by:

Excellent bike carrier and great service

by:

Very solid construction and a cinch to install, securing and removing the bike is even easier and the retractable cable lock is a very nice feature.

by:

Very well made, and easy to use. I was extremely happy with this product. However, I'm 67 years old, and having my bike on top of my vehicle was not working for me. I just don't have the upper body strength I use to, so I sold this rack. The good news is that I was able to get almost what I paid for it. Holding their value indicates it's a good product

by:

This was incredibly easy to install. Took less than 10 mins. It comes out of the box ready to go, no tools, and instructions are super straightforward. I put my mountain bike on top and it worked perfect. Very stable. I also noticed (or didn’t notice) wind noise. It’s very quiet in the flat position and it looks great on my Forester Wilderness. Will buy another one soon. And etrailer.com is an absolutely first class company to work with. All accessories for my vehicles from here on will be purchased from this site.

by:

Thanks etrailer! Not only were my bike racks delivered incredibly fast, they were the best price I could find online or in brick and mortar stores. I can't show you pictures yet...still waiting for the roof rack to be delivered. I was sold on your store and this particular product because of the helpful videos. Keep up the great work!

by:

Everything we expected. Took some research to decide on a bike carrier for our new Subaru, but etrailer was very helpful. Great shipping and good service. We purchased two and are pleased with how easy they are to set up and use. No complaints so far.

by:

Awesome product...with easy installation, and very simple (and secure) bike rack, with loading and unloading made easy. Thanks to etrailer for helping me through the process (as Covid19 delayed the product), and expediting the delivery of my two racks.

5 STAR

Great experience with this company. Pat C. did an amazing job handling my order mistake and going above and beyond. The bike mount itself feels really great quality wise, and we purchased the additional locks with I definitely reccomend. Overall will be returning for future purchases and will reccomend this this site.

by:

If one must use a rooftop bike carrier, these are hard to beat. Easy loading and unloading mechanism. Locks to the crossbars and has a cable to deter theft of the bike. The selling point for me was the ease of moving from one vehicle to another. Literally 2-3 minutes each with no tools except a key required. Highly recommend/Expensive but a good value.

by:

I bought two of these, they work great, good the bikes very solid and I'm confident using them over hundreds of miles. etrailer.com is my go-to for tracks and accessories

by:

2011 BMW 335. Works great for my mountain bike with 29" wheels. Has some room to spare so even thicker tires than my 2.5" would fit. After loading and unloading a few times it's quite simple to operate. The knob will click when you get to the maximum tightness. Having all the bikes on definitely affects fuel mileage but they hold steady. Both outside carriers in the photo.

by:

The (2) Yakima HighRoad racks get a 5 Stars rating it was first class well made and easy to install on my 2017 Subaru Outback. What I really like is the bikes face forward and I can open the hatch without hitting the rack or bike.

I also give etrailer 5 Stars rating too, perfect online ordering, free shipping was available when I make my purchase, and I received the racks when stated. etrailer communications on my order during and after was outstanding. The etrailer Yakima HighRoad install video made the installation easy.

I would like to say thank you to all the etrailer staff that handled my order.

I like this roof rack. It holds the bike very securely and feels solid and well built. I have used this rack for one year now and am very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone. It is great to be able to leave the front wheel on the bike as well.

by:

It works great. If I was their engineer I’d do some minor things differently - lateral stability is so-so, some parts could be of stronger materials - but it’s good. I’m 6’ 5” and drive an Outback, you may need to be tall like me, or drive a clown car!

by:

The new Highroad is amazingly easy to use and very secure. I have them mounted on a retrax tonneau with rails. I love this system for when I am towing our travel trailer. The Highroad has been improved so much from earlier models. Easy to load and secure multiple bike sizes. My plus totes and skinny tires both fit great.

by:

Fantastic rack. Extremely smooth lines when carrying a bike or not. I stuck 3 of them on the roof of my Subaru Outback and couldn't be happier with how secure everything is. I am still able to open the hatch to store our gear unlike a hitch mount and haven't ruined the departure angle on an already long wagon. Easy to install and fit very snugly on the OEM Subaru crossbars with rubber straps. The integrated bike locks are awesome! Had them on the car in 20 minutes. etrailer was extremely helpful throughout the process of ordering and delivered a great bunch of products on time.

by:

1. One star ding for price. Fairly expensive for a single bike, especially after adding a lock core.
2. The rack works exceptionally well and I'm not disappointed with the purchase.

Installation is fairly simple. It does take a bit of fiddling to get the tension down on the rack clamps (connecting it to car) but it is a simple affair, and I'm able to move it between an aero rack and a round rack with out adjusting the tension.

The sliding tray in the rear is a bit sticky, so if you carry bikes of different wheelbases, you may need to add some lubrication to the tract.

Front wheel locks into place (I've used 700x25 and 29x2.3) simply, and the clutch in the tension wheel is a nice addition. It would be nice if there was a quick release button (like in times past) but it spins fairly quickly to unload.

The locking whip is a nice addition. I have been able to rout it over the chainstay on both bikes. However, it is too short to route around chainstay and wheel. I'd prefer to include my rear wheel inside the lock.

Overall, I'm very happy with the product.

As always etrailer comes through great service and products. My go to site for trailer, truck & RV stuff.

  • Can I Use the RockyMounts MachTen Roof Bike Rack with My Bike Tray Mounts on My RalliTEK Roof Rack?
Hello William, Thanks for the details. I understand what you’re trying to do. You have the Backwoods Adventure Mods universal bike tray mounts on your RalliTEK roof rack, and since each mount has about a 4-inch-wide slot, you’re looking for a bike rack that lets you bolt through both slots instead of relying on a single mounting point. The RockyMounts MachTen # RKY97MR unfortunately won’t work well for that. It mounts using clamp-style hardware that wraps around a crossbar and doesn’t...

  • What is Weight Capacity of Swagman Straddler for Bike Racks
Hey Joshua, the Swagman Straddler part # S80503 has an overall 100 lb weight capacity which means the weight of the bike rack plus the weight of the bikes. The Yakima LongHaul part # Y02476 has a total weight of 32 lbs so you'd have 68 lbs left for the bikes. Whats the weight of the bikes you'd carry on this rack?

  • Solution for Carrying Bike Rack on 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer SE With Fore to Aft Muffler
Hi Michael; I'm sorry to say that the Curt # C11479 also has the fore to aft muffler restriction. There are no custom fit hitches available that will allow you to carry a bike rack on your 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer. However, it may be possible to have a custom hitch fabricated locally using the # E-9 (2" receiver) or # E-911 (1-1/4" receiver). You will have to reach out to a local fabricator to see if they can make it work. If not, your only other option is to switch bike racks. You can use...

The Rhino-Rack # RRVA180B-RRRLT600 has 71" crossbars so you will have plenty of room to add a kayak carrier with the Yakima HighRoad Roof Bike Rack # Y22DJ. The Rhino-Rack Kayak Roof Rack # S512-S512X you looked at would be a great choice, especially if you want to carry 2 kayaks. A J-style carrier will maximize your space, and if you're only carrying one you can remove the extension arms. However, if you only have 1 kayak the # S510 would be a better choice.
