Troubleshooting 4-Way Trailer Wiring Not Fully Functional
Updated 05/30/2024 | Published 05/22/2024 >
Question:
I put a Hopkins HM11141164 kn my 2016 Chevy Colorado. When I put a tester on 4 flat plug I have power. Whe I connect the trailer 4 flat plug to the HM11141164 plug I have running lights and I will have a turn signal. When I try the other turn signal and it will not work and the turn signal that did work, wont now. I put the tester back on the HM11141164 plug and I get not readings. I will pull the tester off and then put it back on and I have readings on the HM11141164 plug. Any ideas. Thanks

Hey Kevin, what it sounds like is happening is that the trailer's wiring has a weak ground which is preventing it from being able to draw enough power for the lights on it to function. This is pretty commonly caused by a dirty pin on the connectors so try cleaning them off with sandpaper. Otherwise you'll need to go over the trailer's wiring and fix any short issues as you find them.

I have the HM11141164 installed on my truck. I bought a 48138 4 flat easy pull vehicle connector. I have tried hooking the lights directly to wires on the 48138. I get the running lights and I will get one turn signal to work amd when I switch to the other turn signal and it won't work and when try the signal light that did work, it won't work now. Any ideas on this? Thank you.
