Question:
Own 2000 boat trailer with Dexter EZ lube spindle 3500 lbs I am looking to replace the hydraulic brake assemblies I do not believe current brakes are free backing they don’t look like free backing -but I don’t have a reverse lock out, so I am a little confused about what I really have. I have included a picture if that helps My question is will I be able to use free backing brakes or do they need to look like picture Many thanks Tim

Hey Tim, thanks for the picture of your current brake assemblies. While what you have doesn't look exactly like a free-backing setup you definitely can replace what you have with them. For that I would go with the etrailer part # AKFBBRK-35 which is for 3500 lb axles like what you have and is free-backing.
The kit you mentioned is for 3,700 lb axles.
