Question:
How can I tell if my 2018 ford escape has a factory tow package?

Expert Reply:
If your 2018 Ford Escape has a towing package you'll have a 4-pole or 7-pole connector already installed or a port to plug in a 7-way socket like part # A10-7072VP. If you don't see any wire harnesses already installed then you'll need to pick up one like the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118715. This would allow you to tow a small trailer without brakes.
If you needed to be able to tow a trailer with brakes then you'd first install the # 118715 and then need to install the # ETBC7 in order to have a 7-way socket. After that you can then install a brake controller to be able to activate the brakes on the trailer. My favorite is the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR (along with wire harness # RED69FR) because of how easy it is to use and how small it is compared to other brake controllers.
If your Escape doesn't have a trailer hitch either then you can install the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98866 as well.
