Trailer Wiring Needed To Tow A Boat Trailer With A 2017 Ford Escape

Question:

Hello, I recently ordered a: Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2 for a 2017 Ford Escape. Eventually, I want to tow a small boat. What electrical set should I purchase to go with this particular model car and hitch?

Hey Josh,

If your 2017 Ford Escape has a tow package then you'll see a 7-pin round connector around the trailer hitch to plug the Hopkins # 30955 in. If you don't have this package/connector then you'll need the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118715. This will transfer your Escape's light signals through to the trailer. If your trailer has electric brakes then you'll need the # ETBC7 along with a brake controller. If it doesn't have brakes then the 4-pole is all you'll need.

If you have surge brakes with an electric lock out then you'll want to pick up an adapter # 20036 so that you can activate the solenoid when in reverse and be able to back the trailer up. The extra blue wire will need to splice into the reverse light circuit on your Escape.
