What Is the Difference Between Active and Passive Tow Wiring For a 2023 BMW X3

I have a question about the Stealth Hitch wiring for a 2023 BMW X3 xDrive30i Sport: What is the best way to determine if I need a passive or active wiring harness?

So from what I can gather is that one harness will already have the coding needed to tow properly pre-programmed and the other would not. So a passive harness would then need to be coded before towing, while the active would be ready to roll as is.

Passive is not wired into the computer. It is isolated and wired into the tail-lighting directly.
