Question:

7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 12 Gauge Wires Item # ETBC7L.. can the 12v yellow auxiliary wire and the 12v black wire that connects to the 12v battery be combined so that I would have power for aux items on the trailer and things like the backup lights?

The wiring that comes with the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L is only meant to carry the 12V power for 1 function. Since you're wanting 12V power from your vehicle battery to go to 2 functions you need the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7 instead.

Normally for the universal kit we will route 1 wire for the 12V power and another to the brake controller but you can route that 2nd wire from the battery to the aux yellow wire instead. This will help to keep you from accidentally overloading the 12V power and further protect the wiring on your trailer.
