Question:
I want to put electric brakes on a trailer that has a 1 inch straight spindle but I am having trouble locating the correct parts. It is for a 3500 pound trailer that originally had 7 inch brakes but I want to upgrade to 10 inch if possible. Any help would be appreciated

Expert Reply:
Your 3,500 lb trailer has a BT8 spindle which only fits with specific bearings and seals. Because of this we'll need to stick with 7" brakes as that's the only size compatible with the hubs that fit your smaller spindle. Here are the parts you need to replace your electric brakes and hub/drum assembly:
- Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-2 (comes as a pair)
- Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-2-EZ-1K (comes as a single unit)
To upgrade to a 10" brake assembly we'll have to get you a whole new axle with larger spindles that accommodate the larger brakes and hub/drum assemblies.
