Replacement Converter for WFCO WF-8955PEC for Lithium Batteries

Question:

I have a WFCO WF-8955PEC converter in my RV. I am switching to lithium batteries and need to change the converter. Will this fit into the same physical space as the WFCO main board assembly i.e. be a -in converter replacement? I was hoping it would fit into the WFCO chassisinch so I would only have to swap the converter and keep the AC breakers and DC fuse board.

To convert the WFCO WF-8955PEC to be lithium compatible you'd need the part # PD4655V and you'd be set. This fits in the panel without any modifications.

Is this an entirely different fuse panel and converter replacement? I have the same unit (8955PEC) in my toy hauler and would like to eventually upgrade to lithium, was hoping not to replace everything, just upgrade the wfco box, thanks in advance for any info you can provide

@Tim Its the lower section that basically replaces everything needed to allow it to charge lithium batteries.

@JamesonC This is incorrect - the housing of this replacement converter does not fit in the existing converter space. For a drop in replacement you need the PD 4655L MBA WildKat 55 Amp Main Board Assembly for WFCO 8955. This is the same converter but does not include the metal housing that doesn't fit.

@Sam What is incorrect about it exactly? Maybe I'm misreading your comment, but you look like you're just recommending a different solution. But the PD4655V works perfectly fine.

I'm with Tim on this one. The pictures for the Item # PD4655V include what appears to be a circuit board/fuse panel as well for all fuses and electrical connections that come as part of the package. Does that circuit board need to be replaced along with the converter box, or is it sufficient to replace just the lower slide-in box? You mentioned to @Tim that the lower section replaces what is needed, but I want to be 100% sure that the circuit/board/fuse panel that I have with my WF-8955PEC can remain intact. Thanks!

@Greg It is just the lower section that the # PD4655V replaces on your converter. The rest of your panel stays intact.

I have the same converter in my airstream. I have seen quite a few sources that say the converter is lithium battery compatible? The only complaint I’ve heard is that it does not charge the lithium batteries to 100% but rather only to about 85% Most people supplement it with an MPPT and solar panels.

@Alex that sounds like people are using it to charge lithium batteries but since it doesn't hit the correct voltage it won't charge it fully. We would not recommend that.

Yes, it will! The Parallax/Magnetek or WFCO RV Power Centers #PD4655V will work with Lithium batteries like the Lifepo you mentioned, flooded lead acid, AGM, and gel batteries.
