Replacement Converter for a WFCO WF-8955PEC

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/07/2024

Question:

It looks like this unit comes with a 120v wall plug. The original converter in My wcfo 8955pec is wired directly to the ground bar and circuit breaker. How you recommend installing this new unit? Do I just cut the plug off and go from there. I would assume that would void any warranty!

Thanks for the picture Floyd! No, you definitely don't want to cut the plug off. You'll wire up the Progressive Dynamics 9300 Series RV Converter Charger item # PD79RR, according to the directions I have attached below, then you'll plug it into a standard outlet.

Additionally, since you're replacing the converter on a WFCO WF-8955PEC you can use the Progressive Dynamics Replacement Section for AC/DC Power Distribution Panel item # PD4655V, which is specifically designed to replace yours. It works with flooded lead acid, AGM, Lithium, and gel batteries You also do not have to worry about finding an outlet to plug it into.

Hey Floyd, how did things go with the Progressive Dynamics replacement section for your WFCO panel? Your results could really help others deciding between that and the plug‑in converter. Sharing what worked might guide someone tackling the same swap.

@JerredH Hi Jerred. I am not an electrician but do have some basic knowledge of that subject. With the help of the included instructions I was able to swap out the old unit and install the new one, myself, with out any problems. That included replacing the 12 volt circuit board with the one included in the kit. With the install complete, I was easily able to convert my travel trailer from a weak and finicky lead acid system to lithium. We used it for the whole 2025 camping season which included a week long trip to Florida and a month long trip to California from our home in Pennsylvania. The unit charged our battery with the correct voltage, every time we hooked up to a power pedestal. I made other modifications to my truck and trailer for DC to DC charging on the road but that is out of the scope of this conversation thread. Thanks for guiding me towards this product. It worked perfectly for us!
