When installing a trailer hitch onto your 2022 Toyota Highlander we have two hitches that will work on Highlanders that have a spare tire mounted underneath. Both The etrailer hitch # e75ZR and The Curt Hitch # C45CR will fit models with an 18 inch or smaller spare tire under the vehicle. Larger spare tires will not be able to be stored under the vehicle.
Between the two hitches I would recommend The etrailer hitch # e75ZR over the curt hitch because it has an extra coating of rust resistant paint that will allow it to survive the elements longer then the other hitches confirmed for your vehicle. The etrailer hitch has a maximum gross trailer weight up to 5,000 pounds and has a maximum tongue weight up to 500 pounds. I would recommend checking your vehicle's manual to find the proper towing capacity of your vehicle.
To further enhance your towing experience I would recommend installing The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # TK99FR. This harness will plug into your vehicle's 10-pin tow plug that is located behind the driver's-side behind the trim panel near the rear seat belt bracket/coil. The Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2 inch Hitches # C45554 includes an 8-1/4 inch long, powder coated ball mount with a pre-torqued hitch ball; hitch pin and clip; hitch receiver lock with keys; hitch cover; and a storage case.
I attached an installation video link below.
