Yes, there is another option to add a brake controller to your Ranger. Since you have the factory tow package, I recommend the Curt Echo In-Line Wireless Brake Controller item # C79DR. The controller plugs in behind your 7-way with included connectors. This will completely eliminate any need to hardware a controller.

The Echo In-Line is a proportional brake controller that slows or stops your trailer when your Ranger decelerates. It uses Bluetooth to communicate with your phone so you will never have to worry about losing signal. If your phone dies it automatically uses the default settings you program in.

If you like the reassurance of a manual override button you will want the Manual Override Button for Curt Echo Brake Controller item # C83HR. You can mount it wherever you want it inside your vehicle.

This is a much better option if you are worried about the Echo item # C51180 getting lost or stolen. I have linked a review video along with a couple of pictures that shows the Echo In-Line item # C79DR installed.
