Troubleshooting Why Left Rear Tire Has A Bald Tread And The Other Tires Are Fine
Updated 09/15/2022 | Published 09/14/2022 >
Question:
We’ve got a two axle leaf spring setup and noticed the left rear tire has worn the tread bald. No other tire has any excessive wear. Getting new tires, but wondering what could cause this?

There are a few different reasons why your tire tread was bald and your other tires are fine. One option is that you could have a bent or damaged spindle on the trailer. Another option could be that unevenly loading your trailer and putting more weight on the bald tire side. The stem valve could be bad which is not allowing it to hold its full pressure. An under inflated tire will wear a lot faster especially at the outside edges of the treads surface. An over-inflated tire will wear more in the middle of the tread.
Special trailer tires whether it's a bias or radial tire should always be inflated to the maximum cold psi pressure shown on the tire's sidewall.
Another problem could be that the brakes are over adjusted and are locking up.
