Lionshead Roadside Assistance Program

This tire-and-wheel assembly comes with complimentary roadside assistance for 2 years. If your RV or trailer has a flat tire, call the help line and a technician will come change the flat for you. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico.

1-Year No Excuses Guarantee

This tire has a 1-year No Excuses Guarantee. If within the first 12 months the tire is damaged in any way that's not covered by warranty, it will be replaced at no charge. You will also be compensated a flat labor rate for the cost of mounting the replacement tire.

Steel Lug Nut Inserts

Lionshead Aluminum Wheels with Steel Lug-Nut Inserts

This aluminum wheel comes with steel inserts in the lug nut wells. The inserts are pressed into the aluminum, and they help prevent the holes from wearing down over time. This ensures that the wheel stays secured to your trailer hub and that you won't have to constantly retorque the lug nuts.

Tamarack Radials

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the tread on these Tamarack radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Tamarack tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Tamarack radials are constructed with double steel belts and double nylon cords. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Trailer Tires Explained by the Manufacturer Lionshead Tires

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here from etrailer, and today I'm at N.A.T.M. And this convention brings a lot of the vendors that we have at etrailer to a convention where we have their booths and their products set up. I had a chance to catch up with quite a few of them. So let's take a look at their products a little bit up close in, ask some of the questions to those vendors about their products. I'm here with Tim from Lionshead. And Tim, what is Lionshead Lionshead is a privately held tire and wheel distributor.

We actually have seven locations nationwide, and we sell about 2 million assemblies a year. So you guys have been in specifically trailer applications for 30 years Tim Yep, absolutely. So not only do you have the years to prove that you guys are, you know, one of the best out there, but also having OEMs with your tires on them in place shows that if, you know, they're building these trailers, they want great tires for the customers, but you guys are the ones to provide that. Yeah, yeah. Thank you, yeah.

We focus just primarily on OEMs, and you're right, they're looking for a very set criteria of specification, quality of tire, and we're happy to provide that. So what offerings do you guys have as far as at etrailer Sure, so at the brands, the tire brands that we're fortunate enough to provide to you guys include the fact that we're direct with Goodyear. So the Goodyear Endurance would be one of the brands, as well as our WestLake Tire, and then our Tamarack private label brand. And where do those fall into Is it like a tier system It is, it is. So our private label would be good, WestLake would be better, and obviously with Goodyear being Tier 1 branded product, that's your best tire.

So if someone has their, you know, tires kind of maybe potentially wearing out, what are things that they can look for, and, you know, how do they get the right tire size They wanna treat it just like their passenger car tires. That is, you're gonna wanna look at tread depth, you're going to want to inspect for any sort of damage into that sidewall and any sort of irregular tread wear. If you see any of those criteria, you're gonna want to take it to a dealer or a retail location, or you're gonna wanna take and look at etrailer and find your replacement tire or your replacement assembly. So a replacement assembly. So that's tire already mounted up on a wheel, you can literally just bolt it up and be ready to go.

Why would someone go with that over just a standard tire Yeah, for that straightforward convenience. A lot of times, if a tire is damaged or has an issue, oftentimes that wheel is aged and can have some issues, making it a little bit more difficult to remount. So if you buy the whole assembly, it's literally just taking off the lug nuts, putting the new assembly on and, you know, retorquing the lug nuts. No having to run to a tire shop with your wheel to get it all mounted, yep. No added cost to that, too. Once you have that, you're ready to go. Yep, absolutely. Now, okay, if I have tandem axle, triple axle, and I have a tire that I'm replacing, should I go and do, you know, replace all of them Right, so each individual experience is gonna be a little bit different. No different than a consumer that's buying a car. Some will just replace the subject tire, or other owners are gonna replace all tires at the same time with the belief that if this tire's been subjected to the same conditions, do we just take this one opportunity to replace all We always recommend that you replace all because of that criteria. That makes perfect sense. And as far as maintaining your tires, I mean correct tire pressure's probably number one, I would assume. Do you need to rotate tires Right. So the the key attributes, what you're gonna wanna stay focused on is proper PSI and make sure you don't overload that tire station. Both of those criteria can really lead to shortening that tire's useful life. As far as rotating tires, not really needed because it's in a tow application. It's not as if the front tires are subject to any different kind of wear pattern than the, you know, other stations. That makes sense, yeah, there's nothing driving or spinning it any more than the other one, so, yeah, absolutely. Well, that's good tips 'cause I get a lot of questions from people with campers that ask those questions, and I am not exactly sure I knew, but now I do. So huge thanks to Tim from Lionshead for taking the time to explain what Lionshead offers. That way, you can get tires back on your trailer and back on the road. Great, thanks so much. I appreciate it. Thank you.

Tire was great, wheel was great. Valve stem not so much. It started leaking air. I’m sure it was just a bad valve stem but I was broken down on 100 degree day because of a cheap valve stem.
