Expert Reply:
When installing the MaxxFan Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan # MA00A04301K, there is not a required butyl tape width. You just need to ensure that the butyl tape covers the screw holes.
The Alpha Systems Butyl Tape for RV Weatherproofing # AL33FJ is 3/4" wide and would be sufficient to use for installing the roof vent. It is 3/16" thick, we do recommend that you use butyl tape that is at least 3/16" thick.
You will also want to use some LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Self-Leveling Sealant # 34427034145-1 when installing the roof vent.
