Should Trailer Tire Rated for 90 PSI be Ran Always at 90 PSI
Published 06/29/2022 >
Question:
I have a 4x8 utility trailer with 4.80-12 6 ply bias tires. The tires say 90psi max. When using the trailer to carry only a 100lb kayak, the dedicated trailer store where I bought the trailer says to run the tire pressure at 50 psi. Im getting a lot of conflicting info. What is the correct answer?

Expert Reply:
Trailer tires are unique in that they are designed to be inflated to their max psi rating when cold regardless of the load on them. This ensures you don't create excess heat which would cause the tire to fail over time.
