Should a Tow Bar Sit Level Between the Towed Vehicle and the RV When Ready to Tow
Published 10/07/2013 >
Question:
ive installed the base plates i purchased from etrailer on my 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the center line of the connection point is 17 inches from the floor. the centerline of the receiver hitch on my motorhome is 23 inches from the floor. thetow bar i purchased from etrailer, recommends 3 inches difference between the motorhome and the towed vehicle, with the motorhome being the highest. some sources ive researched recommend the tow bar being as level as possible. my question is should i purchase a 3 inch receiver or the 6 inch receiver?

Having your tow bar as level as possible is the best way to have it set up. Because of that you would want the 6 inch drop adapter. I have spoken to tow bar manufacturers and they say one of the key factors in how long a tow bar will last is how close to being level it was used. We recommend that the entire set up be no more than 3 inches above or below level.
The 6 inch Roadmaster adapter # RM-048-6 will work well for you.
