Does Blue Ox Patriot Braking System Drain Vehicle Battery

I am interested in buying the patriot braking system. I am concerned about the toad battery being discharged during a day long drive. Would this be a problem during a frequent braking situation .

Expert Reply:
The Blue Ox Patriot part # BLU37TR will be powered by the vehicle battery it is installed in so over time if the vehicle wasn't started periodically the battery would run down.
To prevent battery draining on a towed vehicle we typically recommend the battery disconnect part # RM-766. This will disconnect the towed vehicle's battery while being flat towed and will charge the battery as well.
This taps into the running light circuit (brown wire) of the 4-way you have on your vehicle for tow bar wiring. Basically when you are flat towing you will turn on the running lights of your tow vehicle and the battery of your vehicle will disconnect from it's circuits and will begin to charge by the tow vehicle.
Then to power the # BRK2019 you would want to use the # RM-9332. This will wire directly to your vehicle battery so that even with your battery disconnected it will still have power for the braking system.
