Question:
In short, I have the following from Convert-A-Ball The cushioned adjustable shank AMAC1, the Ball Mount BA-1 and the Pins and Clips CABPN-2. Over this past weekend before leaving my destination to come home, I checked the trailer and hitch system, only to notice the lower pin and clip on the ball mount was missing. Somehow, it must have come off during transport. The load was way under the limit being no more that 500 pounds on a 5x10 Utility Trailer. As you can imagine, I was very concerned as to how and why this occurred. I then started looking for a lockable type pin to provide myself and the other motorists on the roadway, with a more safe and secure option. Most every lockable pin I looked at is a 5/8. The BA-1 requires a 3/4 pin and the only option offered or spoken of is the CABPN-2, unless you want to go with a standard Grade 8 bolt. I had come across this InfiniteRule lockset which is a 3/4 for the ball mount and a 5/8 for the hitch. Looking at the measurements it appears it will work. The truck is a 2-1/2 Receiver. Could you please advise if this system will be an appropriate alternative to the regular pins and clips that are mentioned, or is there another option you feel would be more beneficial. I thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Helpful Expert Reply:
That was a good find, because the Ball Mount Adapter for Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Weight Distribution Shank # BA-1 is indeed compatible with the InfiniteRule lock set you asked about:
- InfiniteRule Lock Set for Curt Rebellion XD Ball Mount - 2" and 2-1/2" # IR47FR
The adapter for the shank measures 2-1/2" from outside to outside and the inside span of the ball mount pins are 2-7/8" so you room to spare and comfortable lock the ball mount pins.
