Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire/ Wheel Combo As Replacement for Existing 4.00-8 Tire

Question:
Hi - My trailer uses the smaller tire the 4.0, not the 4.8. How do I know your tire is also the smaller of the two? Thanks

Expert Reply:
The 4.00-8 tire is an obsolete size that is no longer manufactured. The name 4.80/4.00-8 is used so people will know that the new size which has a tread width of approximately 4.8 inches is the correct replacement that would be slightly wider than your existing tire. The # AM30040 tire/rim combo you referenced would be an acceptable replacement for your existing tires, as long as they are replaced in pairs. The 4.80/4.00-8 tire is designed for a 3-3/4 inch wide rim and is 16.1 inches in diameter.
The # AM30040 has a 4 lug on 4 inch bolt pattern (see link) and is rated at 745 lbs at 90 psi.
I have linked you to some FAQ articles about trailer tires that you might find helpful.
