Troubleshooting Tow-Pro Liberty Recalibrating After Trailer Disconnect

Question:
I have the Redarc unit installed in a 2008 Toyota Tundra SR5 CrewMax 4x4 5.7L V8, using the factory tow-brake connections. The system works perfectly when in operation, and installation was easy. My question: It seems that every time I attach a trailer, the system goes back through the entire recalibration process. This only seems to happen if I disconnect the trailer and drive the truck alone, then reconnect the trailer, not just from turning off the ignition as when stopping at a gas station, for example. As I live not far from the freeway, and only apply the brakes 6 or 8 times between my house and the start of a lengthy trip, I may go almost all the way to my destination without the system ever properly calibrating. That said, when it does calibrate stop flashing blue/green, it does work perfectly. Is there an issue with my install? With my unit? With something else? Or is this normal, and I should ignore this process as the way system works?

I reached out to Redarc and it sounds like you need an extra ground wire for your Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR. There is no Redarc wiring harness available for your vehicle, but if you look at one like the # RED49FR it has an additional ground wire. This is what allows the controller to retain power when the trailer is disconnected.
If you hard wired your brake controller using the Toyota provided pigtail you will need to splice an extra ground wire in with the Toyota Brown wire/Redarc white wire, and then simply attach it to a suitable ground point under the dash. This should prevent the reset of the Liberty every time you disconnect the trailer.
